Even beginners can become familiar with the world of sumo through the intensity of the training hall and conversations that ask simple questions. The memorable first episode kicked off with a refreshing opening by fav me’s Komari Nakamoto, who said she’d only ever seen him on the news. In the following video, SKE48’s Kaho Sato and Miki Ito visited the Nakamura stable’s Nagoya lodgings, where excitement was building just before the Nagoya tournament. During his opening remarks, Sato said, “It’s been four years since both the East and West Yokozuna have been gathered together,” to which Ito responded in surprise, “Kaho, don’t you know a lot about this?” The two immediately visited Nakamura stable, where they were greeted by sandanme sumo wrestler A-Ryu. When asked about practice hours, she replied, “Before the tournament, we start at 8 a.m.” To which Ito asked, “What is bashomai?” When A-Ryu explained that it was “the period before the main tournament,” she understood better, realizing, “It’s what we call the rehearsal period.” Furthermore, Sato described the scent lingering in the training room as “like baby powder,” while Aryu described it as “the smell of hair oil.” The two seemed fascinated by the sweet scent used to set Japanese hairstyles. Ito, who watched the two-hour training session, commented, “The impact sound when they collided was amazing to hear live,” and “I was moved.” He was impressed by the wrestlers’ efforts and power. During the tour, Ozeki Tomokazeso, currently ranked second in the West Juryo division (as of the July 2025 tournament), commented that “it’s the same as the selection process,” comparing sumo’s traditional system to the idol system, further deepening the two men’s understanding. In the second half of the program, Komari Nakamoto takes on the challenge of “Komarin’s Quiz Mo!”. This veteran sumo reporter with 15 years of experience asks questions like, “Why do sumo wrestlers fight naked?” While learning about history and culture, Nakamoto also gives some unusual answers, making this a fun segment for anyone interested in learning more about sumo. ■ABEMA “Ossumousan TV” Overview
