https://koganei-civic-center.jp/calendar/2025/09/059068.html Soroptimist International of Tokyo-Koganei is one of the service organizations of the all-women’s global organization. The name Soroptimist is a combination of the Latin words soror (sister) and optima (best), meaning “best for women.” Serving requires money. We have a fundraising committee and have held charity concerts, charity theater performances, tea parties, incense gatherings, and more. Thanks to a connection, we are now holding our first charity ballet performance. Mr. Anton Kei Hosaka, president of Miyaki Ballet School, has kindly agreed to this performance. We hope you will come and see the wonderful ballet, Giselle. We’ve made connections with those who have come to view the event, and some of them continue to help us every time. Last year, we, Soroptimist International Tokyo-Koganei, celebrated our 30th anniversary as a chartered organization. What’s unique about our club is that it’s not limited to women, we’ve also supported events such as the Tokyo Youth Science Festival in Koganei, the Koganei School Music Festival, repairing instruments for club activities at five junior high schools in Koganei City, and providing support for student council volunteer activities (S Club Support). If we receive even a small amount of profit from this project, we will carefully consider how to use it for service. We are always striving to be of service to others, so we would be extremely grateful if you could support our activities and give us your approval. ◆Guest dancer profile

Giselle, a beautiful and lively girl born with a frail body, lives with her mother, Berta. Count Albrecht, accompanied by his attendant Wilfried, visits Giselle with Lois, hiding his true identity. The two are madly in love, but Hilarion, a childhood friend and gamekeeper who has feelings for Giselle, is not happy about this and is suspicious of Albrecht’s true identity. In the village, Giselle dances with the villagers, but her mother, Berta, is worried about her daughter, saying, “If you dance so much, it will put strain on your heart and harm your health.” There’s a legend in the village that if you die before marriage, you will become a Wilis spirit and continue dancing after death. Then, the Duke of Coulland and his party, who are out hunting, stop by the village. Among them, the young lady Bathilde, who stands out in particular, is actually Albrecht’s fiancée. Hilarion, jealous when he finds Albrecht hiding his sword and cloak before coming to see Giselle, exposes him in a fit of jealousy. Giselle, shocked by her lover’s betrayal, loses her mind and dies. Act Two A cemetery deep in the forest. The Wilis, led by Queen Myrtha, appear and summon Giselle to the world, welcoming her into their ranks. Hilarion and Albrecht each visit Giselle’s grave, but Hilarion is captured by the Wilis, forced to dance, and killed. Albrecht is also forced to dance by Myrtha’s orders, but Gisele uses herself as a shield to protect her beloved Albrecht’s life. Eventually, dawn breaks, and the Wilis disappear with the rising sun. Gisele also says her final farewell to Albrecht and disappears, leaving Albrecht alone in front of the grave.
