“Onmyoji” is a popular series that depicts the Heian period. Among its many masterpieces, the full-length novel “Princess Seigen” will be revived as a new stage production at Theater Mixa in October 2025. A stellar cast of voice actors and creators will weave the story of Abe no Seimei, Minamoto no Hiromasa, and the princess at the mercy of fate. The play will be directed by Nosaka Minoru, the head of Nosaka Lab, a theater company specializing in mystery productions. He has previously worked on substantial works such as “The Works of Agatha Christie” and the “Kyosuke Kozu Series,” and is also skilled in situation comedies with intricate plot twists. The script is written by acclaimed playwright Tomoharu Suzuki, who writes and directs for his own theater company, “Tokyo Suzuki Ward Theater Company.” In recent years, he has written and directed for 2.5-dimensional stage productions and recitation plays, as well as worked on TV anime screenplays. Onmyoji were responsible for protecting the Heian capital from evil spirits and supernatural phenomena. Among them, Abe no Seimei, a rare onmyoji who was hailed as the most powerful of all time, was feared at the Imperial Court. One night, Minamoto no Hiromasa, a master flute player, visits Seimei. As they harmoniously share drinks, Hiromasa tells the story of a princess he met 12 years ago… As Hiromasa was playing the flute by the bridge, a oxcart came to a halt, as if listening to the sound. This had been going on for a while, until one day, the sound of a biwa intertwined with Hiromasa’s flute was heard. Hakuya calls out to the princess in the ox-drawn carriage and sees her beautiful figure, but the princess bids him farewell. …Tonight, twelve years later. The princess appears again before Hiromasa, who is playing the flute, and entrusts him with a wish for Seimei. At the mercy of fate, the princess is consumed by the “demon” that dwells deep within her heart.
