August 31, 2025 (Reiwa 7) National University Corporation Okayama University https://www.okayama-u.ac.jp/ ◆Overview Summary On August 24, 2025, Okayama University, a National University Corporation (Headquarters: Kita-ku, Okayama City; President: Yasutomo Nasu), held its first solo live concert at the Kumenan Town Community Center Hall. This concert was made possible by the “Kumenan Town Revitalization Association through Music” (Representative: Tamiko Kondo), which aims to spread the joy and culture of music and revitalize the local community. President Yasutomo Nasu, a jazz enthusiast, also attended the concert. Despite the scorching heat, over 100 people gathered for the concert. The enthusiastic performance of 16 songs kept the audience’s enthusiasm high. The encore, “September” by Earth, Wind & Fire, really got the crowd going, and the concert ended on a high note. Yoko Tanaka, a resident of Kumenan Town, commented, “The song selection and teamwork were excellent. It was a fun time that helped me blow away the heat and stress. I’d definitely like to come back.” Hayato Okubo (3rd year, Faculty of Law), head of the Jazz Study Group, also expressed his aspirations for the future, saying, “I hope to continue actively participating in opportunities to interact with local residents and convey the appeal of jazz and music itself through our performances.” Upcoming events include the 26th Chugoku-Shikoku Jazz Festival on August 31st and Okayama Jazz Street 2025 on October 5th. We’re looking forward to seeing what kind of performances they’ll show on each stage. If you’re interested, please come along.
