MOON LLC (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo / Representative: Kotokawa Yusei) has announced the outdoor live event “AMBIENT in Nature™” at Kifune Shrine in Kyoto. The event will be held on Sunday, October 19th, 2025 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, and admission is by ticket. A special one-night-only live performance will be held at the inner shrine of Kifune Shrine during the “dusk to night” hours, which are normally off-limits to the public. In addition to four members of “Hogaku 2.0,” a group led by Japanese guitarist Yukihiro Atsumi (hereafter referred to without honorifics), we will also be featuring sho player Tokiko Ihara, human beatboxer SHOW-GO, and sound engineer KND. A total of seven artists will perform an ambient session in the great outdoors at night. Ambient is a style of music advocated by Brian Eno that exists as if blending into space, rather than being actively listened to. It takes an approach that does not rely on melody or beat, but floats like air and blends into the listener’s consciousness. About Kifune Shrine, Kyoto/Okumiya

The shrine was founded extremely long ago, and although its origins are unknown, there are records of the shrine buildings being rebuilt as early as 1,300 years ago in the 6th year of the Hakuho era, making it one of the oldest shrines in Japan.

And at the very back of the shrine is the Okumiya, the place where Kifune Shrine was founded, a sacred place surrounded by forest. The yellow boat carrying Tamayorihime-no-Mikoto, according to legend, was reportedly encased in stones to hide it from view. It still lies, covered in moss, beside the main hall of the Okumiya. Directly below the main hall is a large hole known as the “dragon’s hole,” above which the shrine was built. Dragon holes are considered sacred and should not be seen by the public, so no one is allowed to see them. The dragon hole at Kifune Shrine is considered one of Japan’s three great dragon holes.

https://prcdn.freetls.fastly.net/release_image/141671/2/141671-2-52d9daf8b8110c08985397f1fd2e85df-2700×1800.jpg “AMBIENT in Nature™” is an ambient live performance held in the great outdoors. Live music performances that are nature-centered rather than human-centered create an immersive and mystical experience, featuring natural sounds such as birds and insects, wind, and rain. Nature is filled with many sounds, and these sounds work in harmony to form an ecosystem. Humans participate as part of this ecosystem. Therefore, rather than playing a set number of songs, the performers will create ambient sounds, surrendering themselves to the fluctuations of nature. Sometimes these will become accidental melodies, weaving together a beautiful harmony of “nature and humans.” At other times, there will be no performance at all, and a moment will be spent simply listening to the sounds of nature. AMBIENT in Nature(TM)︎ is not just a music event, but aims to provide a time and space where people can experience the beauty of nature. If we can focus on the element of “sound” as one clue to reconnecting with this, and if it can provide a new perspective on nature or a place of healing for modern people tired of sociality and meaning, there would be no greater joy. Artist He creates an unprecedented soundscape, weaving together Japanese instruments, guitar, human beatboxing, and natural sounds. Image

TIME & SPACE (TM)︎ A live performance that opens your awareness to the “here and now” through an improvisational session of nature and sound. It’s a musical genre, an immersive event, a fixed-point sound observation, and a kind of philosophy. Live performances in nature encourage the discovery of perspectives that transcend human-centered concepts like “success/failure” and “right/wrong.” For those tired of speed, efficiency, and city life, the immersive experience is like a sanctuary, restoring the mind and body.

https://www.youtube.com/@timeandspace_tm Hogaku 2.0 This is a music project that updates traditional Japanese music, with a thousand-year history, for the modern era. While “Hogaku 1.0” was performed exclusively with traditional Japanese instruments, “Hogaku 2.0” defines Hogaku as music performed using Western instruments and electronics. It applies the breathing, scales, and rhythms found in traditional Japanese music, such as gagaku, koto, and folk songs, to create a new Japanese sound. It is led by Japanese guitarist Yukihiro Atsumi.

https://www.youtube.com/@Yukihir0Atsum1 Finally Winter snow melts, and spring flowers sprout. After a sweaty summer, we move on to the cold winds of autumn. In ancient Japan, where the changing seasons were a familiar presence, “art” and “nature” were apparently one and the same word. Being natural was the highest form of art, and all performing arts aimed to become as close to nature as possible. In other words, this project is about learning from the past. It’s something that Japan has been doing for hundreds of years, but which we’ve gradually forgotten. October 2025. A new Japanese challenge of “art x nature” is about to be embodied here. Humans, animals, insects, microorganisms, and the eight million gods all gather in one place to enjoy “AMBIENT in Nature(TM)” together!
