The winner of the 71st Edogawa Rampo Prize was Nomiya Yu’s “The Hitman’s Sales Technique.” He beat a highly competitive selection committee where it was said “any of the works could have won.” The winners of the 78th Mystery Writers of Japan Awards have been selected: “Kunlun Nu” by Koizumi Kaju in the Novel and Short Story Series category, “Days of Black Rest” by Hisanaga Mikihiko in the Short Story category, “Japanese Crime Novels” by Sugie Matsuko in the Criticism/Research category, and “Billy Summers” by Stephen King, translated by Shiraishi Akira in the Translation category. At the award ceremony, the winners will give congratulatory speeches, the selection committee will provide their comments and critiques, the winners will be presented with a “Ranpo statue” (known as the “main prize”) and a “personalized clock,” and promotional videos of the winning works will be screened.
