Prefecture’s history and culture. The year 2025 marks exactly 10 years since the Matsue Castle Tower was designated a National Treasure. To that end, we will be hosting a two-part online series of lectures on medieval Shimane mountain castles, focusing in particular on the Iwami region in western Shimane Prefecture, before the Matsue Castle Tower, a National Treasure, was built. This is an online course that you can learn for free, anytime, anywhere, so please feel free to tune in. 1 Online publication start date Monday, September 1, 2020 2 Continuous course [Lecture 1] (approx. 90 minutes) Lecturer: Kenichi Nakaji (Chief of the Historical and Cultural Research Center, Cultural Promotion Division, Masuda City Board of Education) Title: Mountain Castles of Medieval Iwami (1) The Rise and Fall of the Iwami Lords and Mountain Castles Content: Touching on the medieval conflicts that occurred in Iwami, western Shimane Prefecture, particularly in western Iwami, and introducing the major mountain castles that were the site of those conflicts. [Lecture 2] (approx. 90 minutes) Lecturer: Kenichi Mokuji (Chief of the Curatorial and Information Department, Shimane Museum of Ancient Izumo History) Title: Mountain Castles of Medieval Iwami (2) – Mountain Castles and Silver Mines in Eastern Iwami Province Content: Touching on the battle for control of Iwami Silver Mine in eastern Iwami, Iwami in western Shimane Prefecture, and focusing on the mountain castles that served as the scene of the battle 3.
