Shopping at the supermarket with kids Have you ever had the experience of your kids chasing each other around the supermarket? Experts say kids run around because they’re bored. It seems that children tend to calm down more easily if they can actively participate in the shopping experience. For example, it’s a good idea to look at an illustrated guide to find out what you need to buy before you go out. Heading to the supermarket knowing what’s in season and tips on how to choose the right products will naturally get your kids involved in the shopping, and they can become a valuable asset.

It’s a book that transforms supermarkets from “places to kill time” into “places for learning and discovery.” ■Supermarkets become “treasure chests of discovery” Supermarkets are places full of wonder and discovery for children, with fruit, sweets, juice, meat, seasonings, and more. This book features photographs of these products in their original packaging, connecting them to the real things children see every day. It’s fun to flip through the pages, finding new discoveries and saying, “I’ve seen this before!” or “I love this!” In addition, this time, with the full cooperation of the supermarket “Life,” we interviewed and photographed actual products on the shelves. At the end of the book, you’ll find information about working in a
supermarket and secrets about the cash register. It’s packed with features to enrich the shopping experience for parents and children. *This book will be available at “Life” stores with a book section.

It’s a place where parents want to quickly do their shopping in the midst of their busy daily lives. Many people may think so. However, if you take a closer look at the products on the shelves, you’ll find that they’re actually a treasure trove of learning opportunities for children. The ingredients that appear on the dinner table every day are completely different in color and shape from their cooked state. While this may seem natural to adults, children are constantly left wondering, “What?” and “Why?” Learn about the classification, origin, and seasonality of vegetables, the types, parts, and uses of meat and fish, and even the ingredients and preparation methods of processed foods and sweets. This book introduces ingredients with photos and easy-to-understand text, so children can understand even when reading it on their own. Learning about the foods they eat on a daily basis is also the first step in research-based learning. For vegetables that are introduced in particular detail, we’ve included ample information on prices and origins, which are of interest to adults as well. While the content is a little more advanced, it’s directly relevant to elementary school children’s social studies and science studies. For example, grapes in Yamanashi Prefecture are cultivated in the Kofu Basin, where the low rainfall and large temperature differences between day and night allow for sweet fruit to be grown. Mandarin oranges grown in the sunny terraced fields of Ehime Prefecture and lettuce grown in the cool highlands of Nagano and Gunma are also truly “blessings born from nature and topography.” Discoveries like these are also connected to what students learn in junior high school entrance exams and provide an opportunity to understand Japan’s climate and topography. We hope that shopping at the supermarket will be a time for parent-child conversation and deeper learning.” [Product Overview]
