The stage, normally closed to the public, is enveloped in a mellow atmosphere as gorgeous songs and the sounds of the shamisen resonate throughout the venue. The Kotobuki-kai is a rare opportunity for geisha and maiko to showcase the results of their daily training. From dances showcasing the freshness of young performers to performances showcasing the expressiveness of seasoned performers, this
performance, weaving together the skills and spirit passed down through generations, is well-received every year by many audiences. This year, we have prepared a diverse program, including the following: “Tongue-Stick Sanbaso” The performance opens with a joyous dance celebrating peace and prosperity. A perfect blend of humor and elegance spreads a bright and cheerful atmosphere across the stage. “Seigaiha” A graceful performance featuring graceful, wave-like dances set to the melody of Kiyomoto. The classical elegance and serenity will touch your soul. “Toge no Banzai” This humorous dance depicts the sad parting of two manzai dancers who meet on a mountain pass. A heartwarming work that blends humanity and laughter. “Atamayama” A humorous dance based on the rakugo story “Atamayama.” A cherry blossom sprouts from a man’s head, leading to a cherry blossom viewing commotion – this fantastical story is brought to you by a
light-hearted dance. Even if you are new to Japanese dance, don’t worry. The dance movements, music, costumes, and facial expressions tell a story beyond words. Another highlight is the venue,
Kamishichiken Kaburenjo itself. This elegant wooden building is a special space that has also been used as a filming location for hit movies. Once you step inside, you will be gently enveloped in a tranquil and rich world that is different from reality. Please take your time and enjoy this autumn performance woven by the geisha and maiko of Kamishichiken, Kyoto.
