Libraries have a wide variety of materials, including books, magazines, newspapers, and databases, but finding the information you’re looking for requires some skill. At the Prefectural Kuki Library, we offer a variety of courses taught by experts in fields such as health, medicine, nutrition, and art, as well as our own librarians, to teach you how to search for information, how to assess content, and how to utilize information. ○Event flyer 1 Date and time 1. Learn the Basics of “Igaku Chuo Zasshi Web” – Search for Papers Using the Database – Wednesday, October 22nd, 2:00 PM – 3:30 PM 3. Mastering “Igaku Chuo Zasshi Web” – Advanced Database Search Methods October 29th (Wednesday) 14:00-15:30 4. For both the makers and the eaters! Find low-salt recipes that are fun to keep up with Wednesday, November 5th, 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM 5. Learn from museum curators! Let’s write about artists with ties to Saitama Prefecture Thursday, November 6th, 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM 6. How to Use the Internet: Avoid Being Deceived by Fake and Misinformation Thursday, November 13th, 2:00 PM – 3:30 PM Venue 2 2nd floor, Prefectural Kuki Library Training Room (85-5 Shimohayami, Kuki City) 3 Contents 1. “Lively Health! Library Usage Course: Find Health Tips from Books and Magazines” Librarians will introduce recommended books and magazines from our library’s health and medical information section. Participants will participate in a hands-on activity where they can search websites to research illnesses and medications, and will also have the opportunity to tour the section where they can take home flyers and pamphlets. 2. “Learn from the basics” medical journal Web” ~Searching for papers using databases~” 3. “Igaku Chuo Zasshi” Mastering the “Web” Database: Advanced Database Search Methods We’ll be joined by Satoko Fukaya, librarian at Saitama Saiseikai Kazo Hospital, to learn how to use the “Igaku Chuo Zasshi Web” database and search for information. This course is divided into a basic and advanced section. 4. “Finding Low-Salt Recipes That Are Fun and Sustainable for Cooks and Diners alike” We’ll be joined by Keiko Kawashima of the Saitama Prefecture Dietitians Association to learn how to make delicious dishes that make good use of salt. In the second half, librarians will explain how to use library materials and databases to find recipes. 5. “Learn from Museum Curators! “Let’s Write About Artists with Ties to Saitama Prefecture” We will invite Mr. Itaru Hirano, Deputy Director of the Museum of Modern Art, Saitama, to help participants research artists and learn how to create their biographies. In the second half of the session, participants will use library materials to write biographies of artists with ties to Saitama Prefecture. 6. “How to Use the Internet: Avoiding Fake and Misinformation” This article will teach you what to watch out for to avoid being fooled by fake and
misinformation on the Internet, and share librarian tips for selecting appropriate information. 4 Capacity 10 people each time 5
