This event was a talk show commemorating the Japanese release of Italian director Paolo Sorrentino’s latest film, “Partenope,” which began nationwide release in Japan on August 22nd. The title, “Partenope,” is the name of a mermaid in Greek mythology and also an ancient name for Naples. Professor Kondo introduced the cultural richness of Naples, the setting of the film, and its highlights. He explained how the urban aspects of Naples are portrayed in the film’s story, and explored various aspects of the city, from its founding to the present day. Participants were captivated by Professor Kondo’s passionate talk and deepened their understanding of Neapolitan culture.
