“Detour” is a traveling exhibition organized by Moleskine, the heir and successor to the legendary notebook beloved by artists and thinkers, and the Moleskine Foundation, a Milan-based nonprofit organization that promotes education in impoverished areas of the world. This exhibition showcases carefully selected works from the Foundation’s collection of over 1,600 notebook art pieces, each tailored to its local context. The notebooks on display were donated by world-renowned artists, architects, film directors, designers, musicians, and writers, as well as students, cultural organizations, and young creators. Through creative processes that involve drawing, cutting, deconstructing, and reconstructing, they are sometimes transformed into sculptural three-dimensional works, breathing new life into one-of-a-kind art pieces. Creators from various fields have participated, including architects Kengo Kuma and Toyo Ito, film director Spike Jonze, designer Ron Arad, and three-star chef Heinz Beck. They have resonated with the Moleskine Foundation’s philosophy of “Creativity for Social Change” and have donated their own works in support of educational programs that foster creativity and
multifaceted thinking in young people. Having traveled to London, Shanghai, Paris, New York, Milan, and the 2025 Osaka-Kansai Expo, the exhibition will finally open at 21_21 DESIGN SIGHT Gallery 3 in Roppongi, Tokyo from September 10th. To commemorate the Tokyo exhibition, with the cooperation of curator Yuko Hasegawa and Kameari Art Center SKAC (SKWAT KAMEARI ART CENTRE), works by 16 new artists have been donated. New participating artists include poet Yoshimasu Gozo, sculptor Nawa Kohei, actor Itagaki Rihito, and artist Asami Kiyokawa, designer Kunihiko Morinaga, architectural collective GROUP, artist SAIKO OTAKE, sculptor Tetsuya Nakamura, artist Lauren Tsai, singer Aina the End, and designer Matsumoto Yosuke (MIYAKE DESIGN STUDIO). A total of 41 works are on display in this exhibition, which also features the new design tool “NOTE-A-NOTE,” developed by MIYAKE DESIGN STUDIO and Moleskine and scheduled for release soon.
“NOTE-A-NOTE” is an innovative item designed to allow you to write down your first impressions of new encounters. Through this
exhibition, where creativity crosses genres, you can experience new possibilities in the familiar medium of the notebook.
