The “Nude Praise! Men’s Bodies” exhibition, which first took place in 2022 and drew many visitors and positive feedback, will return for the first time in three years, welcoming a new artist. This year’s exhibition will once again be curated by the handsome painter Ryoko Kimura, who will express men’s bodies through a variety of techniques, including photography, painting, and sculpture. We also have events planned, such as photo sessions with male models, which visitors can easily participate in. This exhibition, based on the theme of “male nudes,” brings together diverse images of men by contemporary artists of different genders, sexualities, and modes of expression, in an attempt to explore the acceptance and potential of male expression. When it comes to “nudity” in the Japanese art scene, the image of “female nude” remains deeply rooted. However, various stereotypes and gender norms have taken root in both artists and viewers when it comes to depicting the human body. Amidst ever-changing values, what do artists seek, and what has been expected of them, when it comes to expressing “people”? We hope this exhibition will provide an opportunity to reconsider these questions.
