(Application method and contact details are listed at the bottom) 【About Izushi Eirakukan and Eirakukan Kabuki】 Izushi Eirakukan is a wooden theater built in 1934 (Meiji 9) in Izushi-cho, Toyooka City, Hyogo Prefecture. The theater was restored and repaired in 2008, and since then, with the exception of the three years during the COVID-19 pandemic, we have invited Kataoka Ainosuke to perform at the Eirakukan Kabuki theater every year. Ainosuke has described these performances as his “life’s work.” (Click here for the website for the 15th Eirakukan Kabuki (2025)) [Charm of Eirakukan Kabuki] 〇It’s a small theater with a capacity of 360 seats, so you can enjoy the authentic Kabuki performance starring Kataoka Ainosuke with an “overwhelming sense of closeness and unity.” (We’ve also heard people say, “It’s a completely different theater experience than at a large theater!”) 〇Performances are held in a charming wooden playhouse (designated an Important Tangible Cultural Property by Hyogo Prefecture), creating an atmosphere that makes you feel as if you’ve traveled back in time to the Meiji era, further enhancing the traditional value of Kabuki. 〇Volunteer staff will provide warm hospitality, giving you a theater experience that is full of the “handmade” feel that is unique to the local area. 【The Value of Eirakukan Kabuki】 Eirakukan Kabuki, performed by many volunteer resident staff, is a major event in this small town and a source of local pride. In addition, many kabuki fans from all over the country attend Eirakukan Kabuki, expressing their admiration and encouraging us to hold the event again next year. Continuing to hold this precious Eirakukan Kabuki event will undoubtedly contribute to the development of Japan’s traditional culture. However, with a seating capacity of only 360 people, even if tickets are sold out, the revenue from admission fees alone results in a significant deficit, and in recent years, holding the event has been in jeopardy. We hope to continue holding the event every year, not only to meet the expectations of Eirakukan fans, but also to further increase appreciation for the splendor of Eirakukan Kabuki and its significance not only in Japan but also around the world.
