The Hiroshima International Architecture Festival is a triennial festival promoting architectural culture, with the mission of building the city of the future through architecture, honing children’s sensibilities, revitalizing the region, and preserving local “masterpiece architecture” for future generations. This year, 2025, marks the festival’s inaugural year. Over the course of 58 days, the festival will feature participants ranging from world-renowned masters to young architects of the future. Exhibitions and special
installations will be held throughout the city, as well as talk events and workshops. Architectural knowledge and volunteer experience are not required. Shinshoji Temple Zen and Garden Museum/Mumyoin (Fukuyama City, Hiroshima) This special site of the Kenninji school of Rinzai Buddhism, with buildings ranging from ancient to modern architecture, is set on a 230,000-tsubo (230,000 square meter) site. Three exhibitions will be held at this Zen temple. INFORMATION About 4 to 5 people per day 91 Kamiyama Minami,
Numakuma-cho, Fukuyama City, Hiroshima Prefecture Meet at 8:30 (morning assembly, preparation), and finish by 17:30 (after reporting on the day’s activities, disband). There will be a lunch break along the way. Opening hours: 9:00 – 17:00 (last admission at 16:30). Open every day during the exhibition. Venue 2: Fukuyama Museum of Art (Gallery) (Fukuyama City, Hiroshima) Located near Fukuyama Castle, this Fukuyama City Museum of Art will host an exhibition featuring local Fukuyama architect Koji Fujii and a house in Tomonoura that is said to have been designed by him. INFORMATION Approximately 2-3 people per day 2-4-3 Nishimachi, Fukuyama City, Hiroshima Prefecture Gather at 9:00 (morning assembly and preparation), until 5:30 PM (report on the day’s activities, then disband), with lunch and other breaks along the way Opening Hours: 9:30 AM – 5:00 PM (last admission at 4:30 PM) Closed on Mondays (Tuesdays if Monday is a national holiday) Venue 3: Onomichi City Museum of Art (Onomichi City, Hiroshima) Japan holds the highest number of Pritzker Architecture Prize recipients, known as the Nobel Prize of architecture. Nishido-cho, Onomichi City, Hiroshima Prefecture Meet at 8:40 (morning assembly and preparation), finish by 17:30 (report on the day’s activities and disband), with lunch and other breaks along the way. Opening hours: 9:00-17:00 (last entry at 16:30), closed Mondays (if Monday is a national holiday, closed Tuesdays). Venue 4. LOG (Onomichi City, Hiroshima) LOG is a hotel with a cafe and gallery, but it was renovated from a building built in the 1960s by the Indian
architecture firm Studio Mumbai. This venue will host experiential exhibitions. INFORMATION Approximately 1-2 people per day 11-12 Higashido-cho, Onomichi City, Hiroshima Prefecture Meet at 10:00 AM until sunset, with lunch and other breaks along the way Open daily during the exhibition Venue 5. LLOVE HOUSE ONOMICHI (Onomichi City, Hiroshima) Architect Tsune Nagasaka fell in love with a vacant house in Onomichi, purchased it himself, renovated it, and reborn it as a new cultural exchange hub. The beautiful scenery of Onomichi spreads out beyond the windows. Machinaka Cultural Exchange Center “Bank” (Onomichi City, Hiroshima) A roughly 90-year-old former bank building in the Onomichi Shopping Arcade will host a photo exhibition by photographer Yurika Takano, showcasing her photographs of Onomichi’s historic and nameless buildings.

A mobile kiosk (designed by Hideyuki Nakayama) will be set up in the plaza outside.
