Now that remote work has become the norm, you’re sure to feel something new from these stories you can only hear face-to-face! “Togaribito” is an irregular documentary interview series produced by CBC TV. Natsumi Uga meets with “Togaribito,” or “outstanding” people who are active in certain circles and have achieved success, to experience their passion firsthand and delve deeper into their work. The sixth episode will air on Saturday, September 6th at 4:30 PM. Uga headed to Okazaki City, Aichi Prefecture, one of Japan’s leading stone-producing regions. Ryota Inagaki, the fourth-generation owner of a stonemason’s shop there, is the creator of this Togaribito. The products made by Inagaki’s company are currently attracting attention both domestically and internationally. The stone market is shrinking due to a declining birthrate and a growing trend away from graves. In this climate, Togaribito combines stone scraps with artisanal techniques to create a completely new type of stone vessel. “Stone vessels,” artistic tableware with excellent heat retention properties that can be used for both hot and cold dishes, are ordered by famous restaurants.
