This work is set in two Kyotos: modern-day and the Meiji era. The story unravels the mystery of a bizarre murder that took place there. In modern-day Kyoto, detective Daiki Katsuki, who believes in analog investigative methods, and Rio Quinn, the talented, reclusive engineer who developed “Echoes of Kyoto,” team up to investigate crimes. Meanwhile, in Kyoto during the Meiji era, calm and capable detective Nagahama Masayoshi and geisha Saki, the pinnacle of the entertainment district, join forces to uncover the origins of a case that continues to this day. Two pairs of partners in two different eras arrive at the same truth. This is a timeless, profound suspense drama. ■Story Will the past rewrite the future? A turbulent era—the Meiji era. A series of murders shocked Kyoto. A mysterious pattern drawn in the blood of the corpse. The case went unsolved, casting a deep shadow over history. And then, 100 years later. In a technologically advanced future Kyoto, Detective Katsuki Daiki was investigating a brutal murder. The case bore a striking resemblance to one that occurred in Kyoto during the Meiji period. The key to the investigation lies in the immersive AR experience “Echoes of Kyoto.” It was developed by a young, genius engineer, Quinn Rio. The two team up and begin walking through a recreation of Kyoto from 100 years ago. “Echoes of Kyoto” Using cutting-edge AR contact lenses, people can experience “the ideal Kyoto of 100 years ago.” This recreation of the past captivated many people with a sense of nostalgia. However, as the truth of the incident approaches, “Echoes of Kyoto” becomes more than just a historical experience. As the boundary between reenactment and reality collapses, a question soon emerges: Is this the work of a copycat? Or is it really the “past” that encroaches on the future?
