In this exhibition, two artists use their respective artistic methods to question the values surrounding physical “beauty” and
“attractiveness,” addressing themes such as gaze, social pressure, and gender issues in modern society. Through her three-dimensional works using dressing tables, Myoji explores the ways in which the pursuit of beauty can lead to confidence and joy, but also the potential for it to be imposed by the gaze of others and social norms. Her new work, “Alter Dominant” (2025), highlights the relationship between the individual and society, the body and power. Meanwhile, Takahashi focuses on the “act of treating the body as material.” In the oil painting “Plastic Flowers,” artificial flowers are reconstructed like a patchwork, suggesting the way the body is divided and adjusted into parts, while in another work, in which a mold of her own skin is made into the shape of a bag using silicone, she expresses her perspective on the “body as material” in cosmetic medicine. Myouji Name Born in Hyogo Prefecture in 1987. Graduated from the Department of Painting, Faculty of Fine Arts, Tokyo University of the Arts, majoring in oil painting, in 2019. Drawing on his own experiences, he creates works that address themes such as the body, sexuality, identity, and consumption. In recent years, he has focused on the possibilities of narrative that incorporates text, and has been developing works that combine storytelling with physicality.
