This year’s performance, marking the 14th anniversary of the festival, is a square play called “Haishakku,” which uses the river that flows through Futako-Tamagawa as its stage. The story follows three children as they journey through the “memories of the river” with the help of some monsters. The stage incorporates Kabuki elements, and at the climax, the entire cast performs a “Night Parade of One Hundred Demons.” The music uses “objects” other than musical instruments, creating a unique worldview that transports you from the everyday to the extraordinary. “Haishakku”? For this Tamaribars production, the creative method for “plaza theater” is the act of “hijacking,” an act somewhere between “hijacking” and “borrowing.” “Hijacking” is the act of “receiving something that has been used once and is filled with memories, and then remaking it and returning it.” The various props and costumes used on stage are created by “hijacking.” To date, the students have been “collecting” the bells and other sculpting materials used in the costumes from items close to them. Co-creating the venue’s performance with children from Futakotamagawa This year, children from “Hajimari Hajimarien Niko” and “Lohas Kids Center Clover” participated in the art production. Students and children worked together to create the performance decorations and props, developing the project into one that involves the entire town.

Futako-Tamagawa area and Tama Art University as a “town with an art school,” we will be implementing community collaboration initiatives as a pre-project to enhance the worldview of the stage. 〈Shattering the Stage〉 The student members of the sub-event “Shattering the Eyes” head to the grounds of Seta Tamagawa Shrine, We will greet the enshrined deities associated with important “memories” in the story of “Hymnastics.” In addition, a picture-story show will be held at Seta Tamagawa Shrine, introducing how to enjoy the play and the details of the sub-events. About PBL at Tama Art University PBL, implemented at Tama Art University, is a form of Project-Based Learning (PBL).
