The evolution of VOW WOW goes beyond recreating the 80s Kyodo Medias Co., Ltd. Press Release: September 5, 2025 To Members of the Media VOW WOW’s evolution goes beyond simply recreating the 80s. There’s a band in Japan’s rock scene that continues to make rapid progress. That band is VOW WOW. Last year, they reunited for the first time in 14 years, and then again in January of this year, selling out tickets in a row. With each performance, new fans are born, and they’re expanding at an ideal pace. Amid all this attention, they’ve announced their next year’s live show.

The Tokyo performance will be at Tokyo Garden Theater on January 16th, a venue perfect for showcasing VOW WOW’s band sound most effectively. The Osaka performance will be at Namba Hatch on January 23rd. The title of the concert, which many are curious about, is “The 40 Years of VOW WOW III Celebration.” It looks like the stage will feature the classic album “III,” as well as plenty of timeless hits. VOW WOW’s current members are Kyoji Yamamoto (guitar, vocals), a captivating guitarist with his exceptional technique and one-of-a-kind tone; Rei Atsumi (keyboards, vocals), who wields a fortress of vintage synthesizers; and Motoki Hitomi (vocals), whose singing voice is unlike anything you’d find in a Japanese band. They debuted in 1984 with the album “BEAT OF METAL MOTION.” In the 1980s, when Japan’s rock scene still had a barrier to entry into the world, the UK-based band had an overwhelming presence, releasing six albums. However, in 1990, they sadly disbanded after a performance at the Nippon Budokan. They reformed in 2009-2010 and showed the same bravery, but there was no further activity after that. More time passed, and they reunited last year in 2024, on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the release of “BEAT OF METAL MOTION.” This year’s live performance also saw a clearly younger audience, and they delivered a performance that could be called the triumphant return of champions.
