Scop Co., Ltd. Press release: September 8, 2025 To Members of the Press Children can produce their own bookstore! ? “Children’s Bookstore Production” will be held at Ogaki Bookstore from February 2025! Scoop School and Ogaki Bookstore are collaborating on a project! Children choose books, design the sales floor, and create POP displays and posters. This is a new form of community, education, and creativity. SCOOP Co., Ltd. (Minato-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Hiroki Okamoto) and Ogaki Shoten Co., Ltd. (Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture; President and CEO: Masao Ogaki) will be holding the “Children’s Bookstore Produce” project, in which children plan and design bookstore sales floors, at five Ogaki Shoten stores (Kyoto and Shiga areas) starting in February 2025. This is a new initiative that connects the community, education, and creativity by creating sales floors that utilize children’s sensibilities. Children will put what they’ve learned at Scoop School into practice in the real world. This project involves designing and implementing everything from book selection and shelf construction to book reviews, point-of-purchase (POP) design, and art object creation for a local bookstore. In-store sales will last for one month, starting in February 2026. However, from September to January, after completing the creative learning experience at Scoop School, children will visit stores, develop concepts, select books, and create POP designs.

Children don’t just create a sales area; they learn real-world skills such as “changing perspectives,” “deepening ideas,” “communicating in words,” and “collaborating with others” from active professionals. They then put their knowledge into practice in the real world, from the perspective of a bookstore owner, through the planning, production, management, and review process.

■ Expected Effects ★ For Children: Children who learn creative work at Scoop School will gain experience tackling real-world questions with no right answers and learning to think and make decisions for themselves. ★For parents and the community: It will be an opportunity to spread a reading culture at home and in the community. ★For bookstores: It will attract new customers, including children and parents, and strengthen its role as a community hub. ■Future Developments Our collaboration with Ogaki Bookstore marks a major first step for this project. Rather than a one-off initiative, we hope to continue holding this as an annual event, allowing us to watch children grow and foster a culture of “children’s bookstore
production” that is deeply rooted in the community. We hope that this will become a regular event for parents, children, and local residents, leading to more visits to bookstores and a revival of reading habits. Furthermore, starting with this initiative at Ogaki Bookstore, we plan to expand to bookstores in other regions, including Ibaraki and Iwate. This new form of community, education, and creativity combines community, linking children’s learning to local vitality and fostering a sustainable movement that spreads across the country. ※If you are a bookstore or publisher interested in this project and would like to consider expanding it to other areas, please contact us at the address listed below. We look forward to working with you as a partner to spread the culture of reading in the local community.
