Following last year’s success, this year’s event was held at the UBS Arena in New York, where numerous artists delivered dazzling performances and celebrated with the audience in a grand ceremony. This year, LL Cool J served as MC, and Doja Cat made a surprise appearance interrupting his opening monologue. She joined Kenny G for a performance of “Jealous Type,” which got the crowd really excited. Ariana Grande won the VMAs’ Video of the Year award for “Brighter Days Ahead.” Lady Gaga also won four awards, including Artist of the Year, making her the biggest winner of the night. Sabrina Carpenter performed her new song “Tears,” featuring drag queens to promote the message of “Protect Trans Rights,” fusing music with social messages. She won Best Album for her album “Short n’ Sweet,” tying Ariana Grande for a triple win. In addition, Mariah Carey performed a medley of hits including “Fantasy” and “Obsessed,” winning her first VMAs awards: the Video Vanguard Award and Best R&B Video. Ricky Martin delivered a performance worthy of the Latin Icon Award, performing an energetic medley including “Livin’ la Vida Loca” and “The Cup of Life.” Busta Rhymes, recipient of the Rock the Bells Visionary Award, also delivered a powerful performance, performing “Scenario” and “Pass the Courvoisier Part II.” The highlight of this year’s VMAs was the tribute to Ozzy Osbourne, who passed away in July. After a video introduction featuring comments from his son Jack and his grandchildren, Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler, Joe Perry, Yungblud, and Nuno Bettencourt took to the stage. The concert celebrated his great achievements with classic hits like “Crazy Train” and “Mama, I’m Coming Home,” and concluded with a shout of “Ozzy Osbourne forever!” In addition, a variety of impressive collaborative performances were presented, including Post Malone and Jelly Roll, and J. Balvin and DJ Snake. A diverse range of artists, including Alex Warren and Conan Gray, also appeared, thrilling the audience. Also, during the pre-show before the main show, girl group KATSEYE, winners of the MTV PUSH Performance of the Year award, performed “Gnarly” and “Gabriela,” enlivening the venue. Next-generation artists also appeared one after another, including Tate McRae, winner of the Song of Summer award, and Somber, winner of the Best Alternative Video award. Furthermore, ONE OR EIGHT became the first Japanese group to appear on the VMAs red carpet in school uniforms, attracting the attention of local audiences and media. MTV will be the first in Japan to broadcast this event with Japanese subtitles starting at 6:00 PM on Saturday, September 27th. ◇Award Winners◇ <Video of the Year Award YEAR> Ariana Grande – “Brighter Days Ahead” <ARTIST OF THE YEAR> Lady Gaga <SONG OF THE YEAR> Rosé & Bruno Mars – “APT.” <BEST NEW ARTIST> Alex Warren <BEST POP ARTIST> Sabrina Carpenter <MTV PUSH PERFORMANCE OF THE YEAR> KATSEYE – “Touch” BEST COLLABORATION Lady Gaga & Bruno Mars – “Die With A Smile” <BEST POP> Ariana Grande – “Brighter Days Ahead” <BEST HIP-HOP> Dorchy – “Anxiety” <Best R&B Video> Mariah Carey – “Type Dangerous” <BEST ALTERNATIVE> Somber – “Back to Friends” <Best Rock Video> Coldplay – “All My Love” <BEST LATIN> Shakira – “Soltera” <Best K-POP Video> LISA – “Born Again feat.
