The participating galleries for “CURATION⇄FAIR Kyoto (November 15-18, 2025),” the first art fair to be held in Kyoto this fall, have been announced. In addition to the art fair to be held at Myoken-ji Temple, we will also be announcing various programs to help you enjoy autumn in Kyoto, including the Tokyo Art Club’s “Craft Art” Kyoto 2025 exhibition at the scenic Shosei-en Garden (Kikokutei), a tea ceremony, and a flower ceremony at Ohara-sanso Villa. Discounted advance ticket sales will begin on September 9th. [Art Fair] Participating galleries have been decided! (Venue: Myoken-ji Temple) Approximately 20 galleries have been selected to exhibit at “CURATION⇄FAIR Kyoto,” the first-ever event to be held at Myoken-ji Temple, the head temple of the Nishijin district of Kyoto. This fair will focus on “crafts” and “modern Western-style paintings,” and will feature a carefully selected selection of works for sale across eras and genres, from antiques to contemporary crafts, and from modern Western-style paintings to contemporary art. At the venue, visitors can enjoy viewing and purchasing works while pondering the intentions behind each exhibiting gallery’s presentation, using a text by art critic Minoru Shimizu as a guide. The works to be exhibited include antiques, as well as three-dimensional and two-dimensional works by a diverse range of artists from modern to contemporary periods, including Tsuguharu Foujita, Ryuzaburo Umehara, Sotaro Yasui, Ryusei Kishida, Yuzo Saeki, Bernd Friberg, Jiro Yoshihara, Kazuo Shiraga, Natsuyuki Nakanishi, Iwao Ikeda, Taizo Kuroda, Toeko Tatsuno, Shinji Ogawa, Yasuko Toyoshima, Ryotaro Kato, Ryohei Usui, Shota Suzuki, and Nao Kikuchi. This fair is an attempt to reexamine “crafts,” which can be said to be the cultural crystallization of Japanese art, and to reconnect ancient art, modern art, contemporary art, and crafts across the board by presenting “modern Western-style paintings” and contemporary art as crystallizations of “another modernity” that was born out of Japan’s unique circumstances, rather than simply imitating the West. We aim to propose long-term market value and new aesthetic understanding while resonating with the cultural resources and aesthetic sense of Kyoto. akamanma/ARTDYNE/Artglorieux GALLERY OF TOKYO/hatonomori art/ Gallery Hirota Art / Gallery Nordic Ware / KANEGAE / TATSURO KISHIMOTO / Maki Fine Arts / Suisai / Nagoya Gallery / Nichido Gallery / RED AND BLUE GALLERY / Shibuya Kuroda Touen / Gallery Shi / ATSUHIKO SUEMATSU GALLERY/Takiya Art/ Wa.gallery/ZEAL HOUSE Hyperadaptation 2: Crafts and Expressions for a New Era Image

The setting is Ohara Sanso, a sanctuary enveloped in spirituality and tranquility, where the mountain waters of Mount Hiei intersect with the sacred water veins of Wakasa. In the first part, in a room decorated with calligraphy by Ayako Someya, Sugi will perform a flower ritual offering to the “Water of Life.” Flowers, seeds, extracts, and other life essences will combine with the sounds of gagaku music in a 60-minute contemporary flower performance celebrating the “death and rebirth” of flowers. In the second part, visitors will move into a garden that blends with the Ohara mountains alongside the cedars, walking through a tranquil landscape of streams, ponds, and a variety of living creatures. Takahiro Kondo’s white porcelain is displayed here, and the cedars’ performance, featuring a classical floral motif, resonates with nature, providing visitors with a special experience touring the garden. This flower event is invitation-only and is limited to 30 guests per day. Guests who sign up for the premium tour, which includes a tour of each venue accompanied by a professional guide and hired car, are also welcome to participate. Special sponsor: Toho Leo Co., Ltd. Supervision: Toyozu Yamamoto (Representative, Tokyo Gallery) Participating artists: Kentaro Sugi (flower artist), Ayako Someya (calligrapher), Takahiro Kondo (ceramist)

【About CURATION⇄FAIR Kyoto】4-Day Tour of Japanese Gardens and Art
CURATION⇄FAIR The Kyoto exhibition venues, Myokenji Temple, Shosei-en Garden, and Ohara Sanso, each boast some of Japan’s finest Japanese gardens. Japanese gardens are unique environments where nature and humans, the intentional and the unintentional, intertwine. By experiencing the artworks alongside these ever-changing landscapes, art takes on new value, transcending the traditional framework of “displaying artworks in a neutral space for human viewing.” Here, antique, modern, contemporary, and craft arts defy categories and enter into a dialogue that transcends time and extends to the garden’s stones and trees, and to the viewer themselves. This is not a one-sided viewing space, but a rich space where value is generated spontaneously, an endeavor that embodies the potential of Japanese culture. Rather than submerging art fairs in the logic of global information warfare, we want to transform them into a place where we can critically cultivate and communicate our unique aesthetic sense and philosophy. This project is filled with our aspirations. We look forward to seeing you there.

Enjoy Autumn in Kyoto During “Kyoto Art Month” Starting this year, we’re collaborating with Kyoto Prefecture and Kyoto City in the “Kyoto Art Month” initiative, promoting the event in conjunction with art events hosted by Kyoto Prefecture and Kyoto City, which will be held in various locations throughout October and November. In collaboration with the international contemporary art fair “Art Collaboration Kyoto” (held November 14th (Fri) – 16th (Sun), 2025), which is based on the concept of “collaboration,” and “Art Rhizome KYOTO” (held September 13th (Sat) – November 18th (Tue), 2025), which will exhibit and sell works by young artists with ties to Kyoto, we aim to increase mobility through shuttle buses and ticket discounts, allowing visitors to enjoy art in Kyoto in the fall.
