We also offer “Art Pairing Cocktails,” which allow you to savor the world of the artworks through their taste and aroma, as well as exhibitions and sales where you can purchase your favorite works. We want our guests, local residents, and those just stopping by to enjoy art, so we have made the gallery free and open to the public. whodunit’s exhibition “Fruits of the Landing” – Exhibition and sales also available This year marks the 13th installment of our project, and we will be hosting an exhibition by the online art poster shop “Whodunit.” “Whodunit” is a detective fiction term that refers to a mystery focused on solving the mystery of “who is the culprit.” True to its name, the art poster shop “Whodunit” is based on the concept of visual mystery and playfulness, and does not reveal the real names or identities of its artists. This exhibition, “Fruits on the Landing,” will feature 17 surrealist oil paintings turned into posters. The exhibition features new works that evoke the autumn harvest, featuring fruit and vegetables, as well as works that weave a sense of incongruity and strangeness into the scenery surrounding the hotel. This is Whodunit’s second exhibition at UNWIND GALLERY. At the “Geometry of Intermission” exhibition held in August 2023, many visitors were able to enjoy art in the comfort of their own homes thanks to the affordable price and format of posters. This time, we will be offering a wide range of art, from postcards to posters the same size as the actual works on display, allowing you to enjoy an autumn filled with your favorite art. Autumn arrives early in Otaru, so enjoy a leisurely autumn filled with art. In a fantastical space renovated from a historic building, sip an art cocktail inspired by the exhibits and enjoy the stories and imagination unfolding through the artworks. Influenced by surrealism, he creates works that feature strange landscapes and bizarre combinations, primarily in oil paintings. Graduated from Tama Art University and its Graduate School, Department of Painting Chelsea College of Arts, Postgraduate Diploma in Fine Art Graduated from Chelsea College of Arts, MA in Fine Art After returning to Japan, he worked as a contemporary artist (under a different name) based in Sapporo. During the war, it was used by the Army as an officers’ club, and after the war, it was requisitioned by the U.S. military. Designated a historic building by Otaru City and one of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry’s “Modern Industrial Heritage Sites 33,” this historic building has been restored over the years. The historic atmosphere and architectural beauty of the building remain intact, but after a long closure, the hotel underwent a bold renovation and was reborn as a boutique hotel with a modern
sensibility. While cherishing what has been passed down from the past to the present, the hotel’s mission is to create a space that will foster organic interaction between the local community and travelers. Come experience a unique worldview that is different from that of a typical classic hotel.
