Performer profile Shun Ishiwaka Percussionist. Born in Hokkaido in 1992. Graduated from the Tokyo University of the Arts, where he majored in percussion, after graduating from the same university. He received the Acanthus Music Award and the Doseikai Award upon graduation. As a leader project, While leading Answer to Remember, CLNUP4, SMTK, and Songbook Trio, he has also participated in numerous live shows and productions by Quruli, CRCK/LCKS, Kid Fresino, Haruka Kimijima, Millennium Parade, and others. Recent activities include the presentation of “Sound Mine,” a new concert piece by Miyu Hosoi Shun Ishiwaka YCAM, at the Yamaguchi Center for Arts and Media [YCAM], with the theme of evoking memories through sound and resonance. At Assembridge Nagoya, they performed the roaming performance “Shun Ishiwaka x Nobuyoshi Asai Live Session,” using the entire former Nagoya Customs Port Dormitory as their stage. His diverse activities include his solo performance in the music video for Yamamoto Seisakusho’s 100th anniversary model “OU-Ou,” an online special movie for Figaro Japon’s new series “Rainbow Time Chapter 15” directed by Tomokazu Yamada, and being selected to compose the music for the documentary film “Architecture, Time, and Kazuyo Sejima (directed and photographed by Takashi Homma),” about the new building for the Department of Art Science at Osaka University of Arts, designed by world-renowned architect Kazuyo Sejima. He has performed with many international artists, including: Kurt Rosenwinkel, Jason Moran, Federico Casagrande, Tony Allen, James Francies, John Scofeild,Taylor McFerrin,Peter Evans, Participated in performances in Japan by Fabian Almazan, Linda Oh, Richard Spaven, and Corey King.

In 2021, she released her first album, “THE END,” for which she wrote all the lyrics and composed the music, and began her solo career in earnest. In June 2011, much to the regret of her fans, she disbanded BiSH and is currently pursuing a solo career. In parallel with her artistic activities, in 2012, she played the lead role of Janis Joplin in the Broadway musical “Janis,” which was performed for the first time in Japan. In October 2013, she made her film debut in the Shunji Iwai film “Kyrie no Uta,” for which she won numerous prestigious awards. In September 2012, they held their first concert at the Nippon Budokan, “ENDROLL,” and tickets sold out immediately. That same year, they held their first overseas solo concert in Taipei. Starting in October 2013, they plan to embark on their solo tour, “Kakumei Dochu,” visiting nine cities across Japan.

He began his career as a composer at the age of 19, providing songs for artists such as Misato Watanabe, Koji Kikkawa, and Masayuki Suzuki. He made his debut as an artist in 1986 with the single “Out of Blue.” He is also highly regarded for his producing and songwriting skills, and in 1996 he produced Makoto Kawamoto’s debut song, “Ai no Sensai.” Since then, he has worked on projects with a variety of artists, including CHARA and SOPHIA, and in recent years has continued to collaborate across generations and genres, including DAOKO x Yasuyuki Okamura’s “Step Up LOVE” (2017) and SUPER EIGHT’s “Hurricane Baby” (2024). Furthermore, he has collaborated on remixes and features with Ryuichi Sakamoto, Yusuke Koide (Base Ball Bear), KICK THE CAN CREW, RHYMESTER, Ringo Sheena, Yumi Matsutoya, and others, continuing to expand his musical horizons. As of 2025, he is also actively performing with Kazuyoshi Saito as part of the duo “Kazuyoshi Okamura.”

In January 2025, he provided music for and appeared in Sapporo Breweries Ltd.’s “101st Hakone Ekiden Original Commercial.” His diverse activities include live performances and DJing both domestically and internationally, composing music for commercials, and narration.

In 2009, he received the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology’s New Artist Award. In 2016, he served as the production and music director for the flag handover ceremony at the closing ceremony of the Rio Olympic and Paralympic Games, earning high praise both at home and abroad. In 2019, he released the album “Sandokushi” and the best album “Newton’s Apple ~My First Best Album~.” On May 29, 2024, he released his first album in five years, “Hojokai.” From October 5th to December 15th, the arena tour “(Live) Ringo Haku ’24 – Economic Recovery” will be held (7 cities/10 performances). She voiced and sang the main character, Suzu/Belle, in the animated film “The Dragon and the Freckled Princess,” based on a novel, screenplay, and directed by Mamoru Hosoda, which was released in July 2021. At the end of the same year, she appeared at the 72nd NHK Kouhaku Uta Gassen as millennium parade x Belle. Their latest album, “NIA,” was released in March 2022. From February to April 2025, they embarked on a solo hall tour called “Hitorikunai,” with six performances in five cities across the country. The tour concluded with great success, including a two-day performance at Sumida Triphony Hall. No two performances are the same.
