Minya, who became a mother this year, will also be appearing. What is the Pallas’s cat, Japan’s oldest cat? The Pallas’s cat is a small feline that lives in the cold mountainous regions and dry grasslands of western Iran, Central Asia, and the Mongolian Plateau. Its appearance is said to have remained virtually unchanged for approximately 6 million years, earning it the nickname “the world’s oldest cat.” Characterized by a round face, low-set ears, and thick fur, it has adapted to thriving in harsh natural environments. In Japan, they are kept at seven zoos: Asahikawa Asahiyama Zoo (Hokkaido), Nasu Animal Kingdom (Tochigi Prefecture), Saitama Children’s Zoo (Saitama Prefecture), Ueno Zoo (Tokyo), Nagoya Higashiyama Zoo and Botanical Gardens (Aichi Prefecture), Kobe Higashiyama Zoo (Hyogo Prefecture), and Kobe Animal Kingdom (Hyogo Prefecture), and have become a hot topic on social media and television programs. The contrast between their round faces, stocky bodies, and solitary demeanor, coupled with their hunting instincts, has captured the hearts of fans. The Pallas’s cat is classified as “Near Threatened” on the IUCN Red List, but this calendar allows you to enjoy its charm in the comfort of your own home.
