The grand prize is a round-trip ticket to Finland. This project continues the author Tove Jansson’s passion for letters, fostering self-expression through reading. Applications are open from October 1st to October 15th. A contest to read a Moomin story and express your feelings through words and drawings on a postcard. Rights & Brands Co., Ltd. The grand prize winner will receive a pair of round-trip tickets to Finland on Finnair, and runners-up will receive Moomin merchandise. The entry period is from Wednesday, October 1st to Wednesday, October 15th, and anyone residing in Japan, regardless of age, can participate. Background to the “Moomin Tales Book Report and Drawing Contest” Tove Jansson, creator of the Moomin stories, carefully responded to approximately 2,000 letters a year from readers around the world throughout her life. Readers’ letters included those about which characters in Moominvalley they could relate to, requests for advice about their dreams for the future, and stories of difficult times in life. Tove kept all the letters she received and responded sincerely to each and every one. The delicate emotions and human relationships depicted in her stories are born, in part, from her own outlook on life and her loving and respectful interactions with her readers. Tove Jansson was an artist who valued “self-expression,” the ability to communicate her thoughts and feelings.
