Their lyrics, which contain universal yet powerful messages of hope, love, sadness, and sorrow, and their striking melodies that further evoke their emotions, have garnered great support from young listeners, especially teens. Their first indie mini-album, “Sora Ippai ni Kanaderu Inori” (Prayers Played Over the Sky), released in August 2005, featured the song “Life-Size Love Song,” which became a huge hit, selling 800,000 copies and reaching number one on the Oricon weekly charts. In April 2006, they released their second mini-album, “Nanairo no Doodles,” on EPIC Records. In July, she released her first single, “Ketsumei no Asa ni,” which was the theme song for the much-talked-about movie “Brave Story.” It was a huge hit, selling 1.1 million copies (including the package and full song downloads; 1.2 million downloads of the “chaku-uta” ringtone). In May 2007, she released the popular song “Shiori,” which was also used as the commercial song for Mitsuya Cider. In August, she released her fourth single, “ALONES” (the opening theme for the TV Tokyo animation “BLEACH”), which debuted at No. 3. In October of the same year, she released the tear-jerking ballad “Chiisana Tebi” (the theme song for the TBS drama “Joshi Deka! -Female Detective-“). In November, she released her second full-length album, “Dareka no Chijie,” which debuted at No. 2, her highest chart position yet. On May 8, 2008, they released “Niji,” a hit single that became one of the most popular in the first half of 2008. Used as the theme song for the Saturday drama “Gokusen” on Nippon Television, the song’s catchphrase “It’s Okay” became a familiar refrain to many, reaching No. 2 on the Oricon Weekly Chart for two consecutive weeks and remaining in the Top 10 for six consecutive weeks (a total of 2 million downloads). With “Niji” in tow, they performed at over 10 summer festivals, and on October 1st, they released “Natsu no Kakera,” a superb medium-length ballad perfect for early autumn. The song was used as the ending theme for the coming-of-age film “Fure Fure Shoujo,” starring Yui Aragaki. They performed at school festivals in the fall, and continued to perform energetically at events and other venues at the end of the year, performing live. After the first year, on January 14, 2009, they released the powerful, aggressive song “Velonica,” which reached No. 2 on the Oricon weekly charts. It was used as the opening theme for the TV Tokyo anime “BLEACH,” gaining immense support from rock kids. Then, in March 2009, they released their first limited-edition single, “STAY GOLD,” and their long-awaited third full-length album, “Utai Sarisashi Hana.” Starting on March 20, they embarked on the “Aqua Timez still connected tour ’09,” a nationwide tour of 29 shows (including additional performances). Tickets sold out within 10 minutes of going on sale, making this a huge success, drawing an audience of
approximately 60,000. Additionally, Aqua was chosen as the messenger for the second SONY WALKMAN “Play You.” campaign. With the decision to select Timez, the campaign website has seen a huge surge in traffic. Based on messages from students, they created “Made ni” (Until the End), a song themed on “a song that brings us all together.” In 2010, they released “The BEST of Aqua Timez,” a carefully curated collection of songs from their debut, which debuted at number one on the Oricon Weekly Album Ranking. This marks the first time in history that a band has topped the charts both as an indie and major label. In 2010, they held the “Aqua Timez Music 4 Music Tour 2010,” “The FANtastic Tour 2010 (FC Only)/LIVE:TAKE A They energetically toured the world with the “STAND” TOUR 2010, and will celebrate their fifth anniversary since their debut on August 24th. On August 4, they performed their first overseas concert, the 2012 Asia Song Festival, Asia’s largest concert, in Yeosu, Korea, in front of an audience of approximately 40,000 people. On August 22nd, they released their 15th single, “Tsubomi,” which will be the theme song for the Saturday drama “Ghost Mama Investigation Line” on Nippon Television. On September 5th, they released their fifth album, “Because You Are You,” and held a nationwide tour from October through February 2013.
