The Hokkaido Hubie Festival 2025, a film festival showcasing Hokkaido’s cuisine, tourism, and filmic appeal, will be held from Friday, October 10th to Sunday, October 12th at the main venue, the Red Brick Building, as well as movie theaters in Sapporo. The second program for the festival, which offers a variety of content including film screenings with guest appearances and food events related to the films, has been released on the Hubie official website. Among the additional films, two notable are the two giants of food movies: “Midnight Diner 2” and “The Solitary Gourmet.” At each screening, lead actor Kaoru Kobayashi and director/leader Yutaka Matsushige will appear on-stage, along with a talk featuring food stylist Nami Iijima, who has a close relationship with both films. Additionally, as a food feature unique to this film festival, a “One-Night Only SPECIAL FOOVIE Diner” will be open, where you can enjoy a special dinner inspired by the two films. This one-off collaboration brings together Chef Takeshi Takahashi of La Sante/Shokudo Takahashi, a Sapporo restaurant serving authentic French cuisine centered around Hokkaido ingredients, and Chef Takahiro Araki, executive chef of Nouvelle Pouce Okurayama, where the dinner will be held. In addition, Chef Koji Fukaya of Hakodate’s Spanish restaurant La Concha y Basque has invited cutting-edge chefs from across Japan to discuss culinary philosophy and their passion for food at the “World Culinary Conference in FOOVIE,” which has also announced its speakers. Chef Mitsuo Hazama of TERAKOYA, Chef Shuzo Nagumo of Tokyo’s Spirits & Sharing, and Chef Ryosuke Takao of Sapporo’s TAKAO are among the speakers. Following the lectures, there will be a networking event where participants can sample dishes prepared by the speakers. Another noteworthy event will be the “Development of the Japanese Film Industry and Its Role in the Community,” a symposium featuring leading figures from various industries, including film. The event will feature key speakers including film director Koji Fukada, author of “Workstyle Reform in Japanese Films,” lawyer Takashi Shinomiya, who has produced and produced multiple films and serves as CEO of companies such as Arashi, and Atsushi Tsuboi, general manager of Nagoya Cinema Skhole, who continues to invigorate the film industry through numerous projects. The event will provide a forum for discussions on creating an internationally conscious market, the role of international film festivals, and the future of Japanese film. Tickets for the second program will go on sale from 10:00 AM on Saturday, September 13th at Doushin Play Guide and other locations. Details of all programs and information on related food events will be updated regularly on the Foovie official website (https://fooviefes.com/). *The name of this film festival, “FOOVIE,” is a portmanteau of “FOOD” and “MOVIE,” born from the desire for a familiar abbreviation. We hope that this phrase will become familiar and grow into a new Hokkaido tradition, spreading the region’s charms to the world and becoming a platform for sharing the appeal of Hokkaido’s food and film.
