There are only 30 days left until the Osaka-Kansai Expo. As a special project leading up to the finale of the Signature Pavilion “Jellyfish Pavilion: Playground of Life” (Producer: Sachiko Nakajima, Theme: “Enhancing Life”), we have launched a YouTube channel called “KURAGE Band & the Jellyfish Fellows” to view live footage of the many miracles that have taken place at the Jellyfish Pavilion. First, we will be releasing full footage of two live performances from the World Culture Concert “Festival of Life ~World Life Band~,” an event held for the first time with special permission at “Life Park,” located in the center of the Expo site and surrounded by eight Signature Pavilions, for a limited time from Saturday, September 13th until the closing of the Expo on Monday, October 13th (national holiday). Led by producer Sachiko Nakajima, the KURAGE Band (Jellyfish Band) has been active in various regions since before the Expo, aiming to eliminate barriers such as nationality, age, and gender and create a society where everyone can freely express and share their creativity. In this context, they will be holding their first event, “Festival of Life ~World Life Band~,” over three sessions starting on July 20th at “Inochi Park,” a central venue in the Expo’s theme. Centered on folk performing arts from around the world, this dreamlike collaboration between a diverse range of artists who are creating culture for the future was realized in the open “Life Park,” drawing the audience in. These live performances embodied the philosophy of the Jellyfish House and KURAGE Band: “Democratizing Creativity: Bringing the Joy of Creativity to Everyone!” and were a meaningful time in which performers and audience members transcended their positions to share and appreciate creativity together. As a memorial to the “increase in life” at Expo 2005 Osaka, Kansai, we will be releasing the full footage of this live performance for a limited time. The first installment will be Vol. 1 & 2 (July 20 and 24). We hope that this footage will allow even more people to experience the breath of this miraculous “culture” that was born precisely because of the Expo. Additionally, our YouTube channel, “KURAGE Band and the Jellyfish Fellows,” will be uploading rare live performance footage other than the “Festival of Life ~World Life Band~” during the final 30 days of the Expo. Don’t miss it. Osaka-Kansai Expo “Last 30 Days” Countdown Special Project: Launch of the Jellyfish Band YouTube Channel Channel Name: “KURAGE Band and the Jellyfish Fellows”

Their music dynamically intertwines sounds and rhythms from Japan, Korea, Senegal, Tibet, and more. They frequently collaborate with various regional performing arts from around the world, creating
improvisational resonances between tradition and innovation through the five senses and physicality. They seek to find something that shines amid the fluctuations of music and culture. FENDIKA An art collective that develops a contemporary sound that fuses jazz and improvisation with the traditional Ethiopian music of Azmari (troubadour culture) and folk instruments. Led by founder Melaku Belay, the ensemble also places emphasis on the improvisational dialogue between poetry, dance, and music. They have received high acclaim both domestically and internationally, and have toured the world. Saeki Hayashi A new local performing art from Katano City born amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Led by Katano City-based Japanese taiko drummer Atsunori Saeki, this dance is enjoyed by people of all ages, from children to adults. A traditional Japanese folk dance performed by musicians carrying barrel drums. Kodo Kodo is a group recreating traditional performing arts, centered around taiko drumming, for the modern era. The name “Kodo” embodies the “beating heart” and the hope for the free creativity of children. Since debuting at the Berlin Festival in 1981, the group has performed 7,500 times in over 50 countries and regions. Their core tour, “One Earth,” has been performed more than 4,200 times worldwide. They have performed at the Nobel Peace Prize Centennial Concert, the FIFA World Cup, and the opening ceremony of the Osaka-Kansai Expo. In 2023, they will receive the Commissioner for Cultural Affairs’ Award for their contributions to establishing taiko drumming as an international artistic expression and promoting Japanese culture and international exchange. Doudou Ndiaye Rose Heritage Twelve members of the family of Dudou Ndiaye Rose, a leading figure in Senegalese percussion and designated Living National Treasure, are coming to Japan to present their Heritage. This musical group brings a contemporary take on the traditional Senegalese drum, the sabaar. The ensemble is characterized by improvisation and multi-layered rhythms, and continues to develop the drumming style passed down through the family. Izumi Taiko Koseisen The group was formed in 2000 as part of the Yayoi Festival held in Izumi City. In recognition of their performances, which include visits to nursing homes, school performances, local events, and overseas performances, more than 60 times a year, they were appointed Izumi City PR ambassadors in 2013. Since the Great East Japan Earthquake, they have actively engaged in volunteer work and visiting performances in disaster-stricken areas, including a charity event to support disaster recovery efforts held every May 5th.
