Ainu Cultural Foundation Press Release: September 15, 2025 [Upopoy] Flip through the pages of this book to discover Ainu culture September 15th – 28th only. A special Ainu culture corner will be set up at Daikanyama T-Site Books Upopoy (Symbolic Space for Ethnic Coexistence, hereafter “Upopoy”), operated by the Ainu Cultural Foundation (Chuo-ku, Sapporo; Chairman: Teruki Tsunemoto), will be holding a 14-day event from Monday, September 15th (national holiday) to Sunday, September 28th, 2025, at Daikanyama T-Site (Shibuya-ku, Tokyo) featuring books on Ainu culture and travel to Hokkaido, as well as an exhibition of Ainu language panels. Through this special corner, we aim to deepen understanding of Ainu culture and increase interest in traveling to Upopoy in Shiraoi, Hokkaido.

Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism), Upopoy has been running the “UPOPOY LIBRARY (*1)” service since 2024, which provides high schools outside Hokkaido with a free six-month loan of books related to Ainu culture. In fiscal year 2025, 33 schools, primarily in the Kanto, Kinki, Chugoku, and Shikoku regions, are participating in this program. To provide a gateway to Ainu culture for people of all ages, not just those affiliated with schools that are the target users of this program, a special corner introducing this program, Ainu culture, and Upopoy will be set up at Daikanyama T-Site Books. In addition, a special corner and related events are planned for October 2025 at T-Site Shunan City Tokuyama Ekimae Library (Shunan City, Yamaguchi Prefecture). (*1) UPOPOY LIBRARY

It consists of the National Ainu Museum, the first national museum in Hokkaido, the National Ethnic Coexistence Park, an experiential field museum where you can experience Ainu culture with all five senses, and a memorial facility for the Ainu people, which allows you to honor the dead with dignity. Located on the shores of Lake Poroto, surrounded by abundant nature, you can experience Ainu culture and history from various angles, including by touching and experiencing things.
