The day has been officially recognized by the Japan Anniversary Association. In addition, 2025 marks the 44th anniversary of the birth of Wizardry. There were no specialized distribution or manufacturing companies; all software publishers produced their products in-house. I remember many nights spent inserting floppy disks into rows of computers, watching as games were slowly replicated. Wizardry originally shipped in early September 1981. Given distribution conditions at the time, it likely first appeared on retail computer store shelves around mid-September. With that in mind, mid-September, September 15th, would be a reasonable date to celebrate the birth of Wizardry. Congratulations on the establishment of “Wizardry Day”! I am truly grateful and amazed that you have all continued to love this game for 44 years. There were no companies specializing in distribution or manufacturing, all software publishers handled production themselves. I personally stayed up many nights watching as multiple computers slowly duplicated the game, inserting and removing floppy disks one by one. Wizardry was initially shipped in early September 1981. Considering the
distribution situation at the time, it likely first appeared in stores in mid-September. With this in mind, September 15th — in the middle of September — would be a reasonable date to celebrate the birth of Wizardry. Congratulations on the establishment of Wizardry Day!
