“Recorail” is an FM radio program produced by Japan FM Network Co., Ltd. (JFNC) and broadcast nationwide on 28 JFN affiliates, including interfm (Monday to Thursday 1:30 PM to 3:55 PM / Monday and Tuesday: Shaula, Wednesday and Thursday: Kito Yume). On Tuesday, September 23, 2025 (national holiday), we will air a special holiday program titled “Sound of the Forest.” One year has passed since the heavy rain disaster that struck the Noto region of Ishikawa Prefecture from September 21 to 23, 2024. The earthquake and heavy rains caused great damage to local forestry workers, destroyed forest roads, and the situation is still far from normal. Naturally, production of Noto Hiba, Noto’s signature wood, has also declined significantly. Amidst this, a project is underway with a strong determination to not succumb to disaster. This is the production of an unprecedented classical guitar using Noto cypress. The program welcomes Takaaki Furuya, president of Furutani Lumber Co., Ltd., a timber distribution company in Ishikawa Prefecture that has continued to work with Noto’s forests since the earthquake, and Satoshi Kimijima of Kono Guitar Factory, Ltd., who is working on the project in line with this vision. He will talk about the current state of Noto, which was hit by the earthquake and heavy rains, the current state of Noto’s forests, an overview of the ATENOTE musical instrument project, and the story behind the making of the Noto Hiba Guitar. Also appearing is popular classical guitarist Kaori Muraji, who has actually played this guitar. Having made waves with her collaboration with COLDPLAY, she will release her 16th album, “Eternal Fantasy,” next month, her first in about seven years. She will discuss how she got involved in this project and the unprecedented sound of the Noto Hiba guitar, and will perform the classical guitar sound born from the Noto forests live in the studio for the first time on terrestrial radio. Noto Hiba is known for its relaxing scent. The “sounds of the forest” played by this guitar are not just music, but a message of hope and rebirth for Noto. Please listen to the heartwarming sounds produced by this special guitar, which is imbued with the rich nature of Noto and the hopes of the people facing hardship.
