Yokohama Arts Foundation Press release: September 17, 2025 To Members of the Press Yokohama Dance Collection 2025 [Open Competition] All 18 finalists have been decided! With the catchphrase “We’re looking for dance creators,” the festival put out an open call both in Japan and overseas. From 193 applicants, 18 groups were selected through a video and document screening process to perform their works from November 27th (Thurs) to November 30th (Sun). The Yokohama Dance Collection, held annually in Yokohama, began in 1996 and this year marks its 31st anniversary. In addition to the open competition that has sent approximately 500 choreographers abroad, the diverse program will include performances by recent award winners, new works by
world-renowned choreographers, and collaborations with overseas festivals. Furthermore, this competition is a forum for choreographers and dancers to explore new possibilities for expression and a platform for dialogue and exchange. This year’s competition was open from Friday, May 9th to Tuesday, June 24th, and received applications from a total of 193 groups based in 18 countries and regions. Approximately half of the applications were from overseas (mainly Asia), and there were also applications from new regions, further expanding the scope of the competition. Eighteen teams (Competition I: 8 teams,
Competition II: 10 people) were selected through a video and document screening process and will compete as finalists in the performance review from Thursday, November 27th to Sunday, November 30th, 2025. Competition I Finalist (for choreographers with performance experience both domestically and internationally) Screening dates: Saturday, November 29th and Sunday, November 30th, 2025, Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse No. 1, 3F Hall
