Russell Morris is an artist born in Newcastle, England, and currently living in Japan. He is well versed in a wide range of fields, including natural science, animism, science fiction, and animation, and has earned international acclaim for his fusion of these fields in works such as semi-abstract paintings, three-dimensional and two-dimensional collages, sculptures, and photography. This event was made possible by the resonance between the garden space that thrives in the urban space of Otemachi and the creative philosophy of Russell Morris, whose work focuses on the structure and cycles of the natural world. This work, which creates a space in the city where people can feel the connection between nature and people, and between people, will bring a new color to the Otemachi landscape. This exhibition features a large, symbolic sculpture created by Russell Morris specifically for Otemachi One ART BREAK, as well as a series of small bronze works that harmonize with the lawn area. In addition, from Wednesday, September 24th to Friday, October 3rd, 2025 (excluding Saturdays and Sundays), and from Monday, October 27th to Friday, October 31st, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM, we will be holding “MUSIC BAR in Otemachi.” This event, which attracts many visitors every month with music that fills the entire Otemachi One Garden and a selection of specialty food trucks, will be held at the same time. For the first time, during the opening three days from September 24th (Wed) to 26th (Fri), we will be hosting an outdoor DJ event featuring artists and DJs such as Russell Maurice, creating an even more spectacular evening.

Since the opening of “Otemachi One GARDEN,” art exhibitions have been held continuously. In 2025, three years after its opening, the concept was relaunched. 【Highlights】 <Exhibition Title> O by Russell Maurice (Russell Maurice Exhibition “O”) O by Russell Maurice is a group of public art pieces created for “Otemachi One ART BREAK.” Comprised of large sculptures and small bronze sculptures, the installation unfolds in relation to the environment and visitors. Russell Maurice’s consistent pursuit of the natural world, extending from the earth to the cosmos, embodies the structures and phenomena of plants and animals, as well as their interconnectedness, in bold yet approachable expressions. The logo is inspired by a “ring,” which symbolizes the cycle of nature, and features a sophisticated circular design. <Title of each work> 《You might not like it, but we’re all connected》 (2025) (You May Not Like It, But We Are All Connected) This work is based on the hexagon, a shape commonly found in nature. The two ends of a caterpillar-like shape connect to form a ring symbolizing infinity. Hexagons are a natural shape that appears in everything from the smallest to planetary scales, including snowflakes, insects’ compound eyes, beehives, and Saturn’s north pole. The continuous circle also symbolizes the cycle of nature, and the two facing faces suggest different emotions existing simultaneously.

Graffiti artists primarily use car paint when creating their works, but they face the challenge of it not adhering to surfaces and easily bleeding. Among these, silver paint is the only one that can be applied thickly and firmly to any material, creating powerful and beautiful expressions. Because of these characteristics, he uses silver extensively in his work, and he has created many works using silver throughout his career. To him, silver is a color that “always looks beautiful.” This installation also features a series of bronze statues measuring 15-35cm. Inspired by the mysterious natural phenomenon known as “fairy rings,” in which mushrooms grow in a circular pattern on the lawn, three types of works, each consisting of seven statues, will be arranged in a circle on the lawn of Otemachi One Garden.

It may appear slightly different from the actual artwork. 《Hexenringe》 (2025) This work is based on the motif of mushrooms. Fungi are like a vast network that spans the globe, connecting ecosystems. 《Anstrato’s》 (2025) Through abstract characters, I express the wonders of this world, the invisible, and beings beyond human understanding. 《Ring of Saturn》 (2025) This work depicts Saturn as a face. A hexagonal cloud at Saturn’s north pole echoes the large sculpture, evoking a sense of connection that extends from nature to the cosmos. 【Russell Maurice Profile】
