Benesse House (Naoshima Town, Kagawa Prefecture), operated by Naoshima Bunkamura Co., Ltd., has been nominated for the 1st Michelin Architecture & Design Award, sponsored by Michelin. This award recognizes hotels with outstanding architecture and design, and of the five hotels selected from around the world, Benesse House is the only Japanese hotel to be nominated. On October 8, 2025, at the Musée des Arts Decoratifs in Paris, the Michelin Guide will select and award the five winning hotels. It will also announce the 2025 Michelin Key, awarded to the world’s most attractive hotel of the year. The facility also features a restaurant, cafe, spa, and shops that are open to the public. The entire building was designed by Tadao Ando and is designed to blend in with the
surroundings of Setonaikai National Park over time. The facility is designed to allow visitors to experience the contemporary art both inside and outside the facility with their entire body, with long slopes, staircases, and walkways, and natural light pouring in through cut-out openings. ■About Benesse Art Site Naoshima Benesse Art Site Naoshima is the collective name for art activities carried out by Benesse Holdings, Inc. and the Fukutake Foundation, a public interest incorporated foundation, on the three islands of Naoshima, Teshima, and Inujima.
