On Sunday, September 21st, the Mainichi Shimbun will be holding the 13th “Kotoba Chawa” online event on the “Mainichi Kotoba Plus” website operated by the Editorial Center. The event is titled “Red Pen Roundtable with the Asahi Shimbun Proofreading Center.” We’ve invited two members of our peer group, the Asahi Shimbun Proofreading Center, to discuss the topic alongside two proofreading journalists from the Mainichi Shimbun. The Mainichi Shimbun Proofreading Center hosts a bimonthly online talk event called “Kotoba Chawa” (Word Tea Party) as a service for paid members (1,500 yen per month) of its website, “Mainichi Kotoba Plus.” The event is held in a casual, tea-like atmosphere, with each guest invited to speak about language, and our proofreading journalists will listen to their stories. The 13th Kotoba Chawa on September 21st will feature a roundtable discussion with four mid-career and young journalists from both the Asahi Shimbun and the Mainichi Shimbun. The company cultures may be different, but the passion for proofreading is the same! …Does that mean the worries are the same? This time, we’ll focus on newspaper proofreading, discussing the behind-the-scenes aspects of the job and real-life daily life, including common stories and unique cultures. Are the work flow and tools the same? How do you train new employees? Could it be that this is just a rule we have…? A roundtable discussion between fellow professionals, something you’d never expect to see. Featuring talks from mid-career and junior employees, this episode promises to be a little different from previous ones. 《Speaker》
