Kambara-Tsuneishi Cultural Foundation Press Release: September 18, 2025 Junya Ishigami’s kiosk will be unveiled in the plaza in front of JR Fukuyama Station at the major architectural event, the Hiroshima International Architecture Festival 2025! ~The third installment of the “Mobile Kiosk” project created in collaboration with local businesses~ The Kambara-Tsuneishi Cultural Foundation (Fukuyama City, Hiroshima Prefecture, Representative: Representative Director Kambara Katsunari) will be installing a new “mobile kiosk (small building)” designed by architect Junya Ishigami at the Hiroshima International Architecture Festival 2025 (hereinafter referred to as the “Architecture Festival”), to be held this October. This kiosk, the third in the series following previously announced designs by Yasushi Horibe and Hideyuki Nakayama, will be installed in the plaza in front of the south exit of JR Fukuyama Station and will serve as an information center. This project is being realized with the support of local companies Tsuneishi Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. (Fukuyama City, Hiroshima Prefecture; Representative: President and CEO Yukio Okumura; hereinafter “Tsuneishi Shipbuilding”) and Tsuneishi Kamtecs Corporation (Fukuyama City, Hiroshima Prefecture;
Representative: President and CEO Fumio Kanbara; hereinafter “Tsuneishi Kamtecs”). This “Mobile Kiosk – Small Architecture Project” project is planned to continue expanding with the addition of new kiosks at each of the three Hiroshima International Architecture Festivals. Junya Ishigami “Clouds Fall” Image The Sanyo Shinkansen, the gateway to this year’s architecture festival, Ishigami’s kiosk, which will be installed in the plaza in front of the south exit of JR Fukuyama Station, will not only serve as an information center for visitors to the architecture festival and provide a variety of information, but will also appear as a sculpture, resembling a cloud gently touching the land. ■Comments from participating architects and sponsoring companies Comment from Junya Ishigami This is an information center for the Hiroshima International Architecture Festival 2025. Sponsored by Tsuneishi Shipbuilding and Tsuneishi Kamtex. When I toured the Tsuneishi Shipbuilding factory, I was overwhelmed by the power of assembling a gigantic ship by bending and welding steel plates into three dimensions. It was as if something on an architectural scale was floating on the sea, and moving. The scenery of construction in the factory also evoked a construction site. This small kiosk was made by bending and welding steel plates into a three-dimensional shape, just like building a boat. It’s installed in a position similar to a boat tilted on its side, and its base is made heavy, using the same principle as a roly-poly toy. The sight of it resting on the ground, on the brink of collapse, evokes the sensation of clouds gently touching the land. Follow me to land We’ve come ashore. A friendly cloud like a friend. It gently embraces those around it and casts a soft shadow over them. It wraps us up in a hug. The clouds descend.
