━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ The DMC WORLD DJ CHAMPIONSHIPS, the world’s largest DJ competition, celebrates its 40th anniversary this year. In the past, it has produced many talented DJs who have gone on to perform on the global stage, including A-Trak and CRAZE, and more recently, Hudson Mohawke and Cashmere Cat. Japan has produced many world champions, including DJ KENTARO, DJ IZOH, and DJ Matsunaga, and now the world championships are finally being held in our own country. This historic event is a long-cherished dream for Japan and a first for Asia. National champions from around the world will gather in Tokyo to compete. The tournament will be held over two days. On the first day, October 11th (Sat), the world champions will be decided in three divisions: CLASSIC, BATTLE FOR SUPREMACY, and SCRATCH BATTLE, at O-EAST. Additionally, there will be a stellar lineup of guest showcases, including the reunion of the legendary DJ unit KIREEK, which won the world championship five times in a row; Skratch Bastid, who travels the globe with Bastid’s BBQ; a session featuring pioneering Japanese turntablist DJ KENTARO and trumpeter Takuya Nakamura; and Invisibl Skratch Piklz, a lineup of Q-bert, Shortkut, and D-Styles. On the second day, October 12th (Sun), the venue will move to HARLEM for THE OPEN, a category with no equipment
restrictions. Guests include CRAZE, a charismatic bass music artist who has won the DMC three times; DJ KOCO aka Shimokita, known for his performances using 7-inch records; and nasthug, a new generation icon. A dream competition featuring the world’s top DJs, unique to a global competition. It’s unlikely to be held in Japan again. DJ FUMMY enters the competition thanks to a golden ticket! ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ The Japan tournament was held at WOMB on Saturday, August 30th. Four DJs who survived fierce battles in each category advanced to the world finals. It will be interesting to see if Japan will become the first world champion in six years since Creepy Nuts’ DJ Matsunaga took the world title in 2019. In addition, there’s a golden ticket, granting the right to compete in the world championships with an exemption from the national competitions. There’s only one, and the one who has earned this honor is DJ FUMMY, a four-time Japanese champion and three-time runner-up at the world championships. He’ll compete in the CLASSIC alongside representatives from each country, aiming for his long-awaited dream of becoming the world’s best.

Thanks to the achievements of DJ RENA, who became the youngest world champion at the age of 12, several teenage turntablists have been named finalists in Japan’s competition this year. DMC truly is a stage for unlocking talent. DJ RENA and DJ SORA have been appointed supporters of “Unlock Your Nature” as the embodiment of this philosophy. Additionally, DJ KENTARO, who became the first Asian to win the world championship in 2002, will serve as the ambassador for the “Technics x DMC World Final 2025.” The tournament is supported by the Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition, a public interest incorporated association, and aims to unlock the next generation of talent through this global competition.
