▲GTF Green Challenge Day 2025 in Shinjuku Gyoen Main Visual The GTF Greater Tokyo Festival Executive Committee (Executive Chairman: Wataru Goto), in collaboration with the Ministry of the Environment, the 2030 Biodiversity Framework Japan, Shinjuku Ward, TOKYO FM, TBS Holdings, and TOKYO MX, will hold the “GTF Green Challenge Day 2025 in Shinjuku Gyoen” on Saturday, November 1st and Sunday, November 2nd, 2025 (the event will proceed rain or shine, but will be canceled in the event of severe weather). Started in 2010, GTF Green Challenge Day has grown into a platform for supporting individual environmental actions, or “Green Challenges,” and this year marks its 15th anniversary. Since the United Nations described the severity of climate change as “boiling the planet” in 2023, record-breaking heat and flooding have occurred one after another in Japan, reminding us that climate change is not a “future story” but a reality that directly impacts our lives. This year’s GTF will introduce a wide range of themes, including decarbonization, a circular economy, disaster-affected area
reconstruction, and watershed collaboration, under the slogan “Connect and Support Forests, Villages, Rivers, and Oceans.” The event will feature presentations on Green Challenge initiatives by businesses and local governments, limited-edition menus produced by top chefs using Edo Tokyo vegetables and ingredients from disaster-stricken areas, woodworking and art workshops, stage performances by artists and experts, dance performances by festival groups, a market, and greetings by costumed characters. The event will take place in Shinjuku Gyoen, a former imperial garden established during the Meiji era and now one of only three national parks in Japan. Additionally, during the event, the “Chrysanthemum Flower Bed Exhibition” (November 1st-15th), which has ties to the Imperial Family, will be held. The garden, surrounded by autumn colors and traditional culture, will provide a valuable platform for conveying an environmental message.

In addition, since the Great East Japan Earthquake, we have established a “Reconstruction Support Plan” with the aim of connecting and supporting the forests, villages, rivers, and seas of the affected areas. This year, we are once again offering special slots for organizations and producers in areas affected by disasters such as the Kumamoto earthquake, the Western Japan heavy rains, and the 2024 Noto Peninsula earthquake. They can exhibit for just the registration fee (or 10% of sales for merchandise). Please use this event as a “place of support” to share the charm of the region’s reconstruction efforts with visitors and connect it to the future.
