Debuted on September 21, 1980, with the simultaneous release of the single “Yokosuka Baby” and the album “Bucchigiri.” The band was officially formed on the same day in 1979 with members Arashi (drums), Sho (vocals and guitar), Johnny (guitar and vocals), and TAKU (bass and vocals). In addition to their musical activities on television, radio, and in live performances, they expanded their horizons to include appearances in films and TV dramas. In just two years, they successfully held a concert at the Nippon Budokan, a venue that every musician dreamed of at the time, and won the Japan Record Award Special Award, making Yokohama Ginbae’s name known throughout Japan. A year later, they concluded their activities with the “It’s Only Rock’n Roll Gathering Final Countdown 10” concert. They made a shocking debut with their unique style, Yokohama Ginbae, a band that stood out from the rest of their generation, quickly disbanded while still at the top of their game, much to the regret of tens of millions of fans, and became a legendary band. After that, each member expanded their activities, with Sho as a solo artist and TAKU, Arashi, and Johnny as producers. In 1998, Arashi, Sho, and TAKU reunited as the band “Yokohama Ginbae.” In the summer of 2002, they formed the summer-only band “Shonan Ginbae” and released a single. In September, Shonan Ginbae disbanded and reunited as “THE CRAZY RIDER Yokohama Ginbae ROLLING SPECIAL RETURNS.” In April 2004, leader Arashi underwent surgery for a cerebral hemorrhage, making it difficult for him to continue performing. As a result, Sho and TAKU were replaced by lead guitarist Jack and drummer Atsushi. In September 2018, Sho celebrated his 60th birthday with a 60-song concert at his hometown, Totsuka Public Hall, where he sang 60 songs and more over the course of six hours. In September 2019, original member Johnny announced the launch of “Yokohama Ginbae 40th,” a limited-time revival. On December 31st, they performed at “rockin’on presents COUNTDOWN JAPAN 1920.” As Yokohama Ginbae 40th, they released two original albums, “Bucchigiri Again” and “Bucchigiri 249,” and held two nationwide tours. They attracted a large number of fans of all ages, both men and women, and families, demonstrating their wide fan base across generations. On December 31, 2021, Yokohama Ginbae 40th ceased activities. In 2022, Johnny returned to his role as president, Jack returned as a support member, and together with Atsushi, Arashi, Sho, and TAKU began performing as “THE CRAZY RIDER Yokohama Ginbae ROLLING SPECIAL.” On July 4th, leader Arashi, who had been recovering from an illness, passed away. He was 67 years old. He continued to play eight beats on his 40th anniversary, and sang three songs at his birthday celebration in April, but that was his final appearance in front of his fans. Released an Arashi memorial album and held a memorial gathering called “All for RAN.” In 2023, the “Fujin Raijin TOUR 2023” tour, visiting 13 locations nationwide, was held. At the tour’s finale in Roppongi, Johnny vowed to carry on the spirit of the late Arashi and announced his return. In the fall of 2023, Johnny returned to the band and released the original album “Bucchigiri XI Vintage 3.” They embarked on the “Rock ‘n’ Roll Road 2023 Johnny Come Back! Vintage 3” tour, which took them to six Zepp venues across the country. In 2024, the year before the 45th anniversary, the group will release the Yokohama Ginbae tribute album “Buchigiri Toribiyutou Ginbae Family Tribute Album” as the “45th PRE-YEAR.” The group will also hold a festival featuring all the artists featured on the tribute album, “Yokohama Ginbae Toribiyutou Fuezu Teimaryu All Together! Ginbae Tribute Festival!” The festival was also held for two days in May, generating a lot of excitement. 2025 marks the 45th anniversary of their record debut.
