The judges were Keiji Ohno, President and CEO of AEON Mall Co., Ltd.; Yuriko Yamamoto, Executive Director of the AEON Environmental Foundation; Hisanori Kato, President and CEO of AEON Town Co., Ltd.; and Nobuhiko Shimizu, Director of the Carbon-Free Lifestyle Promotion Office, Global Environment Bureau, Ministry of the Environment. Regarding the winning works, Tanaka commented, “The messages they want to convey are clear, both in the children’s and adult categories.” Shizuchan commented, “They’re all bright and uplifting.” The two also interviewed the winners, asking them about the thoughts they put into their works and the joy of winning. And this year’s best design, the “Minister of the Environment Award,” went to Karina Saka in the children’s category and Ruri Torigoe in the adult category. Saka, whose design focused on climate change, greeted the winners with a “I’m so happy,” while Shizu-chan, seeing her completed personal bottle, handed it to her with a smile, saying, “It’s so cute.” Torigoe, who drew a design of humans and animals living on a lush, green Earth, smiled and said, “I’m very surprised to receive this award, but I’m honored. I hope that by becoming familiar with trees and plants, children will develop a sense of cherishing nature and that this will lead to a better Earth.” Judge Nobuhiko Shimizu explained his reasons for selecting the winners, saying, “Ms. Saka’s illustration is very cute, and depicts concerns about environmental issues in a childlike way. Mr. Torikoshi’s composition, with animals worshiping the Earth at the center and everyone watching over a small tree, gives a sense of the cycle of life and the environment.” [Minister of the Environment Award] Children’s section

I learned from the children and they gave me an opportunity to think.” Following the ceremony, a press conference was held, during which Tanaka commented, “I was so happy to be able to participate in such a wonderful award ceremony, and I learned a lot.” Shizuchan reflected, “There were some very young children there, and I was surprised that even such young children were thinking about the environment.” Tanaka smiled and said, “I know I’m a little biased, but our teamwork was great, wasn’t it? (laughs) We’ve been participating in beach cleanups and other events together for a long time, so I feel safe when Shizuchan is there.” Shizuchan nodded, saying, “(Tanaka) is really kind, and even when I can’t make a joke, she’s always there to make a joke.” When asked what design she would choose for her own bottle, Tanaka joked, “I believe it was an artist who won the award in 2021. They drew everything from small insects to large animals, all the same size, with the message that all life is the same. I was really moved by it, so I’d like to draw one with the same design,” to which Shizuchan chimed in. Tanaka was impressed by Shizuchan’s idea to “design a personal bottle that looks like a plastic bottle,” saying, “It could be an interesting conversation starter.” After picking up the personal bottles that won the Environment Minister’s Award, the two commented on Torikoshi’s design, “I think it’s a message that we should all work together to nurture the Earth. It made me feel like we need to unite.” They also praised Saka’s design, saying, “The cynical play on the phrase ‘I’ve started serving cold Chinese noodles’ is interesting.” Finally, they sent a message: “I hope you’ll think about global issues from these everyday experiences and take action.”
