The background to this is the current situation in which manufacturing regions across the country are facing many challenges due to recent changes in lifestyles, industrial development, and a shortage of workers. Many production areas, such as casting and lacquerware, have a “division of labor” system in which specialized companies in different techniques work together to create a single item. However, with an increasing number of companies going out of business, it is becoming more difficult to complete manufacturing within the same production area. That is why there is now a need for a “reorganization of manufacturing production areas” that allows for co-creation across various boundaries, such as region, industry, material, and culture. The Tsuginote Executive Committee will bring together makers, connectors, and users from Takaoka City, one of Japan’s leading traditional craft production areas with a 400-year history, to create spaces and initiatives that connect manufacturing to the next generation. ■The story behind Craft Fair Tsuginote: For more information about this release
