Penny was the first company in Japan to install gacha machines, and has designated February 17th, its founding anniversary, as “Gacha Day.” Takara Tomy Arts, Penny’s parent company, entered the capsule toy business in 1988 through its predecessor, Eugene Co., Ltd. For over 30 years since then, the company has been planning, manufacturing, and selling capsule vending machines (gacha machines) and the toys inside them, and its capsule toy brand is popularly known as the “Gacha(R)” trademark. Currently, the company releases 40 to 60 new items per month, or approximately 600 new items per year. The 60th anniversary of gacha’s arrival in Japan will begin on “Gacha Day” in 2025, and Takara Tomy Arts and Penny are offering a variety of commemorative projects.
