Through diverse collaborations with leading jazz artists such as Stanley Clarke, Christian McBride, Kassa Overall, Julius Rodriguez, Thundercat, and Kamasi Washington, they have created a cinematic musical expression that invites listeners into unknown worlds of adventure and healing. Working as a quartet featuring Miguel Russell (drums) and Ryoma Takenaga (bass), INSTANT ALTER weaves musical threads that evoke the legacy of superbands like Return to Forever, while also incorporating the spirit of Brazil’s Tropicália movement and the cutting-edge sensibilities of punk and metal, as exemplified by Living Colour, to create new sounds and narratives. Amidst the diverse forms of “fusion,” INSTANT ALTER balances intensity with delicacy, drawing on the spirit of artists like George Lucas, Björk, Miles Davis, and Prince, who have forged their own worlds without being bound by genre or form, creating a universe that transcends existing boundaries. Their music lies somewhere between sensitivity and powerful introspection, reflecting moments of transformation that move between expansion and reflection, between shared emotion and personal experience.
