Jimbocho Theater, a classic movie theater in the book town, screens classic Japanese films on film, highlighting works from various angles, such as directors, actors, and themes. Starting Saturday, October 4th, we will be holding a special screening program called “Watching Classic Movies: The Theatre of Men’s Lives,” where you can learn about life from the fascinating protagonists played by famous actors. The free-spirited lifestyle of Tora-san, the protagonist of the film “It’s Tough Being a Man,” unconstrained by time or place, is surely something that modern people living hectic lives have long admired. In this article, we’ll explore how to “walk your life” from the diverse lifestyles of the protagonists of classic films. The films being screened include “Daiban” (1957), the saga of a man who comes from a rural village in Shikoku to Kabutocho, Nihonbashi, and rises to the top as a stock trader; “Ohara Shosuke-san” (1949), famous for the folk song lyrics, “I loved sleeping in the morning, drinking in the morning, and bathing in the morning, and I ruined my life with that,” and “Shall We Dance?” (1996), in which an ordinary office worker begins to reexamine his life after attending a ballroom dance class. Whether you’re risking your life in a big gamble or living a carefree life at your own pace, everyone’s life is different!
