■Synopsis From the era of Greater Osaka in 1926, to the post-war period in 1945, the excitement of the World Expo in 1970, the bubble economy and its collapse in the 1990s, and finally to 2025, when the World Expo will be held again. Set in five different eras, this omnibus play vividly depicts the historical background and human relationships, centering on Osaka’s merchant spirit and comedy culture. The show is hosted by Choroken, a duo of door-to-door entertainers who have inherited a 300-year tradition. Each chapter is enhanced with popular songs and dances from the time, instantly transporting the audience to that era. At various points throughout the story, a mysterious figure appears, taking on the appearance of the head of a long-established restaurant or the owner of a kushikatsu restaurant, encouraging the characters at a crossroads in their lives to “give it a try.” January 10th is the Ebisu Festival. At the end, the figure’s true identity is revealed. The climax is set in the future, Osaka, in 2075. The audience becomes part of the stage, and the immersive production engulfs the entire venue in dance, resulting in a euphoric finale that will provide everyone with a wonderful moment. ■ Purpose of the performance The purpose of this play is to express and experience Osaka’s history and culture through
participatory theater, woven together with the local community. Osaka history researchers, entrepreneurs, directors, and creators have joined forces to stage stories based on historical facts, allowing audiences to enjoy and share the city’s memories, rediscover their own roots, and provide an opportunity to think about the city’s future. By collaborating with local people, businesses, and organizations to re-edit cultural resources and present new entertainment that uses the city itself as a stage, the project aims to foster local pride and attachment, and demonstrate a model for regional revitalization that will be passed on to the next generation. ■Performance Features 1. This performance aims to preserve the history and culture rooted in the region, and through workshops and auditions open to the general public, the younger generation who will lead the future will be able to experience the appeal of theater and the value of the region. 2. Hidekazu Akai will make a special appearance. Known to many as a “symbolic Osaka actor,” he will liven up the performance. 3. We will also be conducting a crowdfunding campaign. Once rehearsals begin, we will invite supporters to tour the rehearsal studio and offer rewards to help spark interest in the play. We will use this in conjunction with social media to build excitement for the performance with the help of our supporters. 4. This time, actual locations, companies, and shops will also appear in the play. Each chapter is designed to resonate with audiences of all ages. 5. The title of the play, “Yatteminahare!” (Give it a try!), is the catchphrase of Shinjiro Torii, founder of Suntory Holdings Limited, a leading Osaka company, and is also included in the Suntory Group’s corporate philosophy. ■Performance overview Date and time Saturday, January 10, 2026 14:00~ 18:00~ Sunday, January 11th, 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM Location: Osaka Prefectural Gender Equality and Youth Center (Dawn Center) 1-3-49 Otemae, Chuo-ku, Osaka City, Osaka Prefecture 540-0008 Seating Capacity: 450 seats per performance x 4 performances, maximum 1,800 seats Tickets: Priority seating: ¥6,000 (¥6,500 on the day); General seating: ¥5,000 (¥5,500 on the day) Organized by: Osaka 150 Year Story Performance Executive Committee Executive Chair: Keiko Yamahira, Co-Director of Adult Dance Theater School Executive Committee Member: Francisco Xavier, Dancer, Co-Director of Adult Dance Theater School Hironori Sakai Representative of Amaral Co., Ltd.
