Tomochika & Reiji’s Fantasy Train features train- and travel-loving celebrities enjoying various journeys. Starting at 9 PM on Tuesday, September 30th, we’ll be featuring a trip to see the autumn leaves, a glimpse into the coming of autumn! With the heatwaves subsiding and the autumn foliage season finally upon us, we’ll introduce the top three recommended spots across the country where you can plan ahead and still see the autumn leaves. Enjoy the famous Kyoto train that runs through a tunnel of autumn leaves, or the beautiful yellow leaves in the northern lands… Pushing aside the many other autumn foliage spots, the place that took first place was a place deep in the mountains where a World Heritage Site is located. First up is Kyoto, the world-famous tourist destination. The two main destinations are the Eizan Railway and the Sagano Scenic Train. Take the Eizan Railway to Yase-Hieizanguchi Station. Reiji was impressed by the bold design, featuring a vertical oval on the face, and exclaimed, “Who was it that suggested putting a ring there?” At Mount Hiei, we visited Rurikoin Temple, a popular and incredibly photogenic spot. The autumn leaves reflected on the table make it known as the “Autumn Leaves Table.” Tomochika, Reiji, and Minamida were all taken aback by its beauty. On the Sagano Torocco Train, you can enjoy the scenery along the line itself, which is ranked number one in Kyoto’s autumn foliage viewing spots. Just when you thought you’d be mesmerized by the bright red maple tunnel, Minamida said, “I got excited,” as he was glued to a certain video… Next up is Oirase in Aomori Prefecture. At Hachinohe, the starting point, we first fill our stomachs at the Tatehana Ganbeki Morning Market. The Aoimori Railway, which stretches over 120 kilometers, is packed with sights like Japanese pampas grass and golden rice fields, but the highlight is the bright yellow leaves at Ishigedono Rapids. Furthermore, as we gaze upon the vast expanse of autumn foliage around Tsuta Numa, Tomochika finds herself humming a Showa-era autumn song, but Minamida cuts in… When Towada’s hearty soul food, the barayaki set meal, is introduced, Tomochika
passionately talks about her strong passion for yakiniku. ■ Fantasy talk over an all-you-can-eat crab meal As an extra, we’ll also introduce a plan that includes a visit to Izumo Taisha Shrine in Shimane and a crab feast. Crab season opens in November, allowing you to enjoy plenty of red snow crab and snow crab. At a long-established inn that also appears in the works of Shimazaki Toson, you can enjoy a 10-course crab-themed meal. The three of them get excited discussing crab dishes. This is the joy of a fantasy trip. And the winner was Mount Koya in Wakayama Prefecture. Wakayama Electric Railway is known for its many unique trains, but Reiji muttered, “I have to avoid this one.” It seems there’s one train he just can’t stand… Finally, they board Nankai Electric Railway’s sightseeing train, Tenku!
