Terminology.'”

Since its launch in 1948, “Modern Terminology Basic Knowledge” has been the one and only yearbook of new words and new knowledge for 78 years. The “New Words and Buzzwords Awards,” launched in 1984 as a promotional event, is an annual event that selects and honors new words and buzzwords that reflect the times throughout the year from the terms included in “Modern Terminology Basic Knowledge.” We are pleased to announce that the special sponsor and award name will be changing starting with the 42nd award, scheduled for 2025. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to U-CAN Co., Ltd. for their long-standing support since 2004. Together with our new partner, the T&D Insurance Group, we aim to continue to manage events that record the times and share them with everyone through the power of words. Outline of the New Word and Buzzword Award From the various “words” that have emerged over the course of a year, the New Word and Buzzword Award is selected to honor those that have captured the eyes, mouths, and ears of the public with their witty, contemporary expressions and nuances. The award also honors individuals and organizations deeply involved in those “words.” Established in 1984. Nominated words are selected based on the terms included in “Basic Knowledge of Modern Terms.” The top 10 and annual grand prize words are selected by a selection committee.
