exclusively follows the historic 120-day succession ceremony of the prestigious Kabuki family, Otowaya. This is a documentary about the century’s succession ceremony, following Onoe Kikugoro VIII and Onoe Kikunosuke VI from March to July 2025. For the first time in the 400-year history of Kabuki, two Kikugoros appear side by side, and this is the story of father and son as they rehearse and perform together in the succession performance, alongside their son, Kikunosuke, the youngest person to assume the name. This is the complete, uncut version of the original program that aired on the CS channel Ginga in August. It includes extensive footage, including the quick costume change scene in the Renjishi Naraku (abyssal dungeon) that wasn’t shown in the original version, the opening speech for the “Kishiki Kao Yose Teuchi Ceremony” on the day of succession, and footage of the rigorous rehearsals and the actual performance.
